Here is an Aquarium Co-Op article I wrote that talks about the different causes of cloudy water and how to address them. Hope it helps!

Welcome to the CARE forum! So happy to hear you're a fan of both our channels. Can't wait to see a pic of your beloved betta if you get a chance. 🙂

@Brandy Lol, I just pulled some platy fry even though I don't have room for them. The first 5-6 batches all got eaten and I miss having babies around. 🥰

Here's how Cory shipped fish back in the day. This video helped me a lot back when I shipped shrimp:
I also got some useful tips and tricks from this article written by Greg Sage, who sells fish online for a living. Some of the info is a little older, but still helpful: http://www.selectaquatics.com/article_shipping.htm

Genius! I Clever technique to keep it anchored to the wall during water changes.

If your other plants are shorter than the scarlet temple, then it could be a lighting issue (since the scarlet temple is closest to the light). My green hair algae was caused by too much light intensity. Once I backed off from 70% to 30% intensity (and used some liquid carbon for spot treatment), the green hair algae completely went away after 7-8 weeks of regular weekly water changes. If you can't control the intensity of your light, you can raise the light higher or try to shorten the amount of time it is on. Best of luck to ya!

@Hobbit Haha, I was just listening to that section of the live stream. I don't have much trouble thinking of community fish for each color, but it's difficult for me to get footage of all the fish. I've had to skip certain species that I liked simply because I couldn't find any fish stores that carried them so that I could film them. 😛

Congrats on the new babies! Any tips and tricks on how you got them breeding so well?
-
Yup! The quarantine med trio is safe for scaleless fish, plants, invertebrates, and beneficial bacteria. Congrats on the awesome Valentine's day gift. 🙂
-
Congrats on the healthy baby tears! I think it depends on how much salt. Is there a reason you would want to use salt in that tank? If you're going to treat sick fish, I would highly recommend just removing the fish into a quarantine tank.

I was only able to raise my honey gourami fry by using infusoria. However, Sera Micron fry food is one of the finest powders I've used, so it might work.

In the past when I've had betta fish with a persistent fin rot problem that didn't go away with clean water, good food, and medication, the causes of stress were:
- Current was too fast
- Halfmoon betta was biting his own fins and tail (lifelong problem)
- Betta was constantly flaring at his reflection (on one of the aquarium walls) every day from 2-4 pm when the sun was at a certain height and I wasn't at home to see it
- Betta was chasing his fast tank mates all the time
- Heater temperature was accidentally set too low
You may have to do some detective work and see what random thing may be causing him stress. Hope you can figure it out soon!

In my experience, neon tetras prefer to feed from the middle of the water, so I bought slowly sinking, tiny foods like Xtreme Nano pellets, Fluval Bug Bites (Tropical Formula for small fish), frozen daphnia, frozen cyclops, etc.

Glad you enjoyed my video! I kept a halfmoon betta with my dwarf chain loaches and they never bothered him or his long fins. If my betta started swimming toward them, they would just scatter and regroup on the other side of the tank. As much as I love the look of kuhli loaches, my vote is for the dwarf chain because a) they don't hide, b) they play around a lot in my tank, and c) I don't like pest snails. 😉

I like to feed my corys Repashy gel food, frozen bloodworms and spirulina brine shrimp, Xtreme Nano pellets, Hikari sinking wafers, etc. Never tried cichlid sinking pellets before, but it's probably fine if they'll take it.

I'm not sure if CyroPro is compatible with the trio, so I would do a water change to clear out the trio, treat with CyroPro, give your goldfish at least a couple weeks of recovery time with no medication, and then try the trio again. CyroPro kills parasites by preventing them from molting, so no need to remove the anchor worm yourself. Also, make sure there are no shrimp or other crustaceans in the quarantine tank because CyroPro will affect them as well. Good luck with treatment!

Oh, I'm so glad to hear it! Do let me know if you ever get some baby bichirs in your collection. 🙂

Hmm, I've never used the Seachem test kit before. I've used the API Freshwater Master Test Kit (which has test tubes) and Tetra test strips in the past, and both seem to measure nitrite and nitrates accurately, even when I'm using Easy Green. In my experience, Easy Green increases nitrate but does not increase nitrite.

Sorry to hear that your new crabs are having issues. Did you ever find out what the problem was? I've never kept fiddler crabs before, so did you try asking the store you bought them from?
-
CyroPro from Hikari is what we use for anchor worms and fish lice.

Did you ever found out anything about breeding bichirs? Doesn't look like anyone here has experience with making more of them.

I kept a single male honey gourami as my centerpiece fish in a 20G community tank with green neon tetras and albino corydoras, and he was not shy at all. Later when I bought 2 females and put them in a 10G quarantine tank, one of the females would bully the other during mealtimes. After quarantine, I added the 2 females to the male, and when I review my footage of them, they didn't really hang out together much. They all just kinda did their own thing in the tank. 🤷♀️

@StephenP2003 Ooo, I'm all for easier. What brand do you like best for liquid GH?
-
I've used both to raise the GH and overall mineral content in my aquariums because plants and livebearers don't like my naturally soft tap water. The packaging on Wonder Shells says it has other additional benefits, like removing chlorine, purifying water, and clearing cloudy water, but I haven't tested it. The reason why I use Equilibrium nowadays is because of the form factor - it's easier to measure out a certain amount of powder and know that it will raise my dGH by an exact amount. My main complaint about Equilibrium is that the powder doesn't dissolve as readily and can make your tank water cloudy if you add too much all at once, so I usually just dose smaller amounts over time until I reach my desired GH level.

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the mollies! My balloon mollies were raised in fish farms that used brackish water (unbeknownst to me) and got sick about a month after I brought them home. The female had fungus and swim bladder disease. My solution was to treat them with aquarium salt (using these instructions) and add minerals using Seachem Equilibrium (since I have low GH and KH but high pH). Once the female had babies, I immediately moved all the fry to a freshwater tank with my normal tap water and I ended up rehoming the adults back to the pet store I got them from. The fry grew up used to my tap water and I had no issues with them.
Here is the care video on mollies that made me realize my problem with lack of minerals:
Here is a video on "livebearer disease" that Cory made that goes into more details:
