  1. I dont have any focus. Hopefully just mixing with the blood worms will give them enough. I have a bare bottom tank. Those fish seem to eat anything!!
  2. I found some!! Yay!! I will thaw some blood worms and mix it in. Thanks!
  3. @ColuThanks so much for the advice on the water change! I am not a water changer! I typically let my plants do the work til I see something that calls for it. I was concerbed about the load in the qt tank. That is a relief!! I will have to look and see if I have kanaplex. That will be ok for all fish in tank? I suppose you wouldn't recommend if it wasnt..... Thanks again!
  4. I am not sure what is going on in my quarentine tank. All fish were added Nov 25. Last week I noticed a small red spot on the side of one of the platies. I decided to treat tank with aquarium salt. 5T in a 10 gal. bc the red spot/bump had a white dot in the center. I did a partial water change 3 days later bc I have 11 fish in a 10 gal. Water change every other day (partial, approx 40%) the next day one of my oto cats eyes were fogged over, died the next day. Partial water change yesterday, no more salt has been added. A ramshorn snail attached to the aquarium, shell slipped right off of it! Platies of course made a snack of it. Woke up this morn to a dead male platy! Not the one with the spot. (That seems to be getting better now) Now my only other male platy is hanging around the top of the tank or hiding under a rock. Inhabitants are 3 peppered cory-all very active, 2 otocinculous also normal activity, 5 platy, 1 molly. Hornwort, crypt and Java moss. 1 med sponge filter, 1 hob filter, temp 79 bc they will be going in tank at 79. 20ppm nitrate,150ppm ghost, 180ppm kh,7.8ph, 0 nitrite, 0 ammonia. I test daily with strips and liquid test kit since it's stocked heavy. Tank has been set up for a couple months. Successfully qt'd bolivian rams for 4 weeks in same tank. I am wondering...salt killed snail? Dead snail fishe ate make them sick?? Their poop all looks normal. Dead fish was upside down in hornwort. Could it have gotten stuck in there? But that wouldn't explain this other male. Like it's trying to get oxygen. Any ideas?
  5. I thought about doing that if I can find one. They seem pretty elusive at times. That's a good price. I have a credit at aquatic arts. Shipped fish don't seem to work for me as well as receiving snails. Maybe that's what I will do. Let's hope this works!! I appreciate the comments below about the otocats. I would agree with the "scraping" term. That is what I want to to do but the scratches I would cause......
  6. That's great! Thanks! I have 2 otocats in qt right now! I should get a nerite snail. I have a couple in my 20 gal. I have no algea issues in my 20 gal! I have a panda gara, tons of snails and shrimp. I am hoping my big tank goes as well as the smaller.
  7. I love my ramshorns!! I also have mystery snails and bladder.
  8. I have used a microfiber cloth, it helps a little and I only use it on the front since it does take some muscle! 💪even the panda gara and snails don't get it off!
  9. @DaveO I am not the only one with a little seat in front of my tank!!😁
  10. @CalmedByFishI am glad you asked this question! I have the same issue!! Looking forward to some good ideas!
  11. I am still curious about other shoaling behaviored fish to keep with rams. If anyone has any ideas. I do still have an empty 35. I can switch around fish in the future.
  12. @Colu I hope one day you can keep bolivian rams. They have a neat personality. I started with 2 thinking that was all I would get then ad other community fish. I am soooo glad I added more rams! Completely changed their personality for the better. As with most fish I suppose. Thank you for your input.
  13. May I ask what you keep with rams if you have them?
  14. True....platy fry...I forgot about that! You think the rams would snack on them?
  15. We like snails too but sometimes they get a little out of control. So in goes a cucumber slice! Works everytime!
  16. I have 5 platies and 3 cories, 2 otocinculous. 1 unintentional molly. 2 panda gara already in the 36 gal. I keep the temp at 79/80. Thank you
  17. I am just so pleased how my rams are behaving now that I have added the 3 new frm qt to 36 gal with the 2 original. Yesterday was the first time I had seen them shoaling throughout the entire tank! I have platies in qt right now with cories to add in a few weeks. I was thinking I would like to add a specie of fish with similar shoaling behavior as the rams for mid tank. They are like a little family, reminds me if my own at times🤪. Any suggestions? I have been wanting forktail rainbows but not sure they are for this tank now. Black neon? What do you think?
  18. Rams and panda garra are out of quarentine! The behavior of the two original rams have completely changed! When you read an article that says a fish can be aline or a pair but do better in a group, I will from now on follow the grp advise! It has been so enjoyable watching this behavior! Now because of that lesson learned..... I purchased plates, Otto cats and Cory Doras. In the qt tank now for this acrylic tank. I saw this beautiful yellow fish I believed was a platy. On further reading AFTER I brought it hm I now realize it's a molly! So he needs to be in a grp also to be happy I feel. I didnt want mollies bc I had read they can be bullies sometimes. I want a school of forktail rainbows. I will have to read about this option of tank mate more. I am pleased with how things are turning out so far for this long forgotten tank in the attic! Picture of the rams was really hard to get clear bc they are having a blast making friends!
  19. Hammock time!! My sweet panda. I do believe he occasionally gorges himself so much that he needs a rest! Some days his belly looks like he ate a horse! There is something yummy in there he is snacking on! Snail eggs, snails, shrimp fry, white cloud eggs....who knows. He is a healthy fella or maybe gal.
  20. I decided to add 3 more bolivian rams to the existing 2. These fish are so interesting! We are also adding 2 panda garra. They will be released into the acrylic tank next Wed as it will be 4 weeks. Been so tempting to dump them on a daily! These 3 seem to have much better color than the 2 in the acrylic. Maybe adding the 3 will add some excitement and color. Still not convinced of gender or if they are bonded. Their behavior is almost human like in a relationship🤣🤣
  21. Ah. My larger one hangs out with my panda cory! They are pals. Doesn't seem shy. I cant wait to get more! Thanks!
  22. Do you have a school of garras? I have 2 in my 20. I have read mixed experiences on keeping multiples vs single. I love my garras!
  23. Set up qt tank for fish i desire to add to the acrylic tank. Started adding fish to my cart. Got a little out of line. 14 fish! 😳 I had to remind myself this is on a 10 gal qt tank. So sad to remove my choices from my cart. 6 fork tail rainbow, 6 peppered cory. 1 panda garra and 1 angel. I kept the fork tail rainbow in my cart. Will a school of 6 be too many for a 10 gal qt tank? Thank you for your insight!
  24. @Gatorthats awesome info! I appreciate that! When I am done with my quarentine tank I would like to put it away. I would keep my sponges in my tanks but the qt sponge i would rather not. Doing some reading about setting up qt today. Thanks again!
