Sorry but I don't know anything past what you already mentioned. I have always wanted to get one. Are you having good luck with it so far? Keep me posted!

I've only had the one mussel for a couple of days, so it's hard to tell if it's going good or not.  I haven't seen it open yet, but I don't look at the tank all day.

  2. Has anyone cared for freshwater mussels and can offer some advice.  I did some searching, but didn't find a lot except to hear that if they die, they can pollute a tank quickly.  My LFS had them and they were cheap, so I got 1.  He said they can live in 80° water, but he said to try one first.

  3. I blanch my zucchini and it sinks right away.  I freeze what I don't use and when I feed the frozen zucchini, once it defrosts, it sinks right away.  Every once in a while, I'll see some strings floating around, but those get picked up by the filter or sink and get eaten.

  4. Ok, I can see that, but does the headache of more cleaning and possible malfunction outweigh the little added benefit.  In addition, the two elbows have to add some restriction, so really, does moving it away from the glass accomplish much at twice the price of just a pre-filter?

I'm beginning to wonder if we've been trolled on this post? 😳

Oh, wow. I don't know. Probably some sort of algae. I did notice that the tips of your java fern are darker. Mine are that way. Dose anyone know if that is a deficiency?

The dark tips of the Java Fern might be some older growth.  The new growth is nice and bright green and the moss in the eco-complete in the first picture is some Christmas Moss that has come off of the bridge and is growing in the substrate.

Oh interesting! Now I have no idea what those fine, green strands are. Almost looks like a green staghorn algae? Whereas the thicker, green fronds on the right side of the picture look more like java moss (or some other kind of moss).

Irene, the thicker green fronds might be some pieces of Christmas Moss that's growing in the background.  I've had staghorn growing on the leaves of the Java Fern, but I dosed Excel and it got rid of it.
