Sorry but I don't know anything past what you already mentioned. I have always wanted to get one. Are you having good luck with it so far? Keep me posted!
I've only had the one mussel for a couple of days, so it's hard to tell if it's going good or not. I haven't seen it open yet, but I don't look at the tank all day.

It literally just changed as I was looking at a post. I love the new theme. Looks much more modern.

I have Amano and Bamboo Shrimp and they aren't bothered by the Excel, but I've heard things about Val and Flourish. I don't know if the problem with with Flourish or Flourish Excel.
-
If it is staghorn, I got rid of staghorn in a week in one of my tanks using Flourish Excel after reading this article.

The only things I've heard is about blue lights. The blue lights grow algae quickly and that plants don't "see" blue lights, so to plants it's like having the lights off.

Has anyone cared for freshwater mussels and can offer some advice. I did some searching, but didn't find a lot except to hear that if they die, they can pollute a tank quickly. My LFS had them and they were cheap, so I got 1. He said they can live in 80° water, but he said to try one first.

Does anyone else use Purigen in their Aquaclear 20? Wondering what you do to get it to fit? I fold mine in half, but I'm not sure if I'm restricting flow through the Purigen by doing that.

My QT is loaded with pond snails, so I raise them in there.
I forgot to mention that Rachel O'Leary has a couple of great videos on what to do with the eggs once you see them.

I used Flourish Excel and it got rid of my stag horn in about a week. I read this article.

So far, I love my java fern. I just got some java fern trident and I'm hoping it does well, it's definitely different and good looking. I also got some micro sword as a foreground plant in one of the 10 gallons, but it really slow growing and it's in some coarse sand, so it's difficult to keep rooted.

Amano and bamboo shrimp mystery and nerite snails and various bristlenose plecos (lemon blue eyed is my favorite). I haven't had much luck with the one or two ottos I tried.

I have one of my Java Fern growing out of a knot of Mopani. I had no idea it would grow this much this fast. Anyway, the rhizome and roots are growing out of the wood. Should I cut the rhizome or would it hurt to just let it grow?

Cycle a 40 gallon breeder from day 1 with about 20 feeder goldfish.
Edit: I forgot to add that this is from a "reputable" LFS. (We don't go there anymore)

I agree about the water sprite. I have some floating in 3 of my tanks and also some planted in one of those three. One thing that I noticed is that floating it does best in a low flow tank. It is thriving floating in the one tank I have a sponge filter in.

I blanch my zucchini and it sinks right away. I freeze what I don't use and when I feed the frozen zucchini, once it defrosts, it sinks right away. Every once in a while, I'll see some strings floating around, but those get picked up by the filter or sink and get eaten.

I did "some" population control of the pond snails. I like them to a certain extent, but they are a distraction in a display tank.
-
Ok, I can see that, but does the headache of more cleaning and possible malfunction outweigh the little added benefit. In addition, the two elbows have to add some restriction, so really, does moving it away from the glass accomplish much at twice the price of just a pre-filter?
I'm beginning to wonder if we've been trolled on this post? 😳

Oh, wow. I don't know. Probably some sort of algae. I did notice that the tips of your java fern are darker. Mine are that way. Dose anyone know if that is a deficiency?
The dark tips of the Java Fern might be some older growth. The new growth is nice and bright green and the moss in the eco-complete in the first picture is some Christmas Moss that has come off of the bridge and is growing in the substrate.

I have Bamboo shrimp and Amano shrimp that live in 80 degree water. My Bamboo shrimp is by far the prettiest, but is a little shy. On the other hand, my Amano literally swims around the aquarium sometimes like the other fish.

Why do pre-filters need those elbows? What can't they just go right on the existing intake?

Oh interesting! Now I have no idea what those fine, green strands are. Almost looks like a green staghorn algae? Whereas the thicker, green fronds on the right side of the picture look more like java moss (or some other kind of moss).
Irene, the thicker green fronds might be some pieces of Christmas Moss that's growing in the background. I've had staghorn growing on the leaves of the Java Fern, but I dosed Excel and it got rid of it.

Floating plant that is easy to care for

I like water sprite. It's very hardy and easy to control. Also, the fish love swimming through it. I have a Betta that will sleep in in it and a Glass Cat that swims through it all day long.
