  1. http://Secrets of Garage Fish Room Electricity https://youtu.be/NeYf-5VxuK0 Adding outlets into my garage fish room. Please give any feedback, I’ve never added outlets before. I learned a lot!
  2. Building a fish room in my garage. Planning and installing electric Hi All! I am in the process of building a fish room in a kickout area of my garage. Lots to do and we are starting basically from scratch. I would love your thoughts and feedback on what I’m doing and let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you, I appreciate it!
  3. Hi Armyvet! I’ve thought about that but I’m just a bit intimidated on how to correctly set it up. Not much of a plumber.
  4. Thank you Tolstoy. Good point. I think in the beginning I will be running a large air pump and sponge filters with manual water changes. Also planning on heating the room. Sounds like plan 2 is the winner. Anybody else have input that likes any other set up? Thanks a ton!
  5. Thank you Chem Bob. I got the 2’6” (30 inches) from Greg Sage and his recommendations on building fish rooms. You are making great points though as that space in reality may be an issue. I only have 81 square feet of floor space (9’x9’) so I’m trying to make the best of it while still being manageable. Thanks again, I’m humbled by you all that are taking time to give feedback.
  6. Thank you so much s1 and Odd Duck! Seems option 2 is the favorite. I appreciate your input and feedback!
  7. Sweet! Thanks Streetwise! Great points! Thanks one vote for #2.
  8. Which of these do you like best and any input and feedback would be appreciated 1, 2, 3 or 4?
  9. I’m in the planning stages of a a fish room build. I’m building a 9’ x 9’ space in my barn into a fish room. My goal is to have a gallery type set up (biotopes from around the world) but then have some tanks to move potential breeders or fry/eggs into and out of their respective display tanks. All the barn has at this point is electric, but as I said, I’m in the planning stages. I’m wondering if it’d be okay for me to share my four potential plans for set up’s and get everyone’s opinion on them?
  10. I have a question for all of you with a fish room. I’m building one in my barn. I’m in the planning stages. What is the minimum space you’d leave between tanks/racks? thank you.
  11. Mine do rip up a little Val once in a while but Val grows so fast that as you can see, it doesn't matter. This is a 20 gallon high and I have two Rainbow Cichlids. The mystery has been solved with these two everyone. I have two females. The smaller one laid her first set of eggs this week. Once I get a bigger tank I will get a male for these two.
  12. Colu, agreed. But when I got them I was told the large one was the male and the small was a female. Also, they do display some breeding behaviors prior to the large female laying eggs.
  13. Thank you Fish Folk. Yes, it's a nice tank. It runs between 20 and 40 Nitrates, I never fertilize and the Val grows like crazy. I've actually placed 2nd in an online aquascaping contest using this tank. Anyway, as you can probably tell, the large fish in the photo has the female breeding tube. She is the one laying the eggs. The eggs are very organized and turn white and fuzzy in 2-3 days. She does guard them well and she doesn't eat them right away, but they are all gone within a week. I can't imagine the smaller dark one being 'talked into' fertilizing the eggs if it is a male. When she's laying eggs the other one stays away. They do display some odd 'breeding' behavior before the large one lays the eggs. The smaller dark one will shake and shutter as the larger female approaches it. As I've researched, that is typical breeding behavior. Again, I appreciate your help. My plan long term is to upgrade this tank into a 75 gallon within the next 7 months or so.
  14. Hello All, This is my first time posting on this forum. I have a 20 high with two rainbow cichlids, two female redtail dalmation platys and a male albino bristlenose. I was told that the Rainbows were a male and a female. The larger one that I was told was a male lays eggs about every 30 days. This fish is large and looks like a male. The other one, whom I was told was a female is smaller. The large one colors up beautifully in full breeding colors. The small one stays dark most of the time and is chased away often. Although I have eggs many times, they never hatch and I don’t think ever get fertilized. I either have two females (one dominant and one not) or a mature female and an immature male. Has anyone had any experience with these fish?
