I keep mine in a 250 litre (65 US gallon)
they're in there with emerald dwarf Rasbora, CPD's, Kubotai Rasbora, a couple of Hillstream loaches and a few different Corydora species. There are also a loan guppy, a head and tail light tetra and two cardinal tetras that got dumped in when my daughter closed her tank down and all get along fine.
They get vibra bites and bug bites that I do crush up a bit, crushed flake and live BBS every other day.
They tend to stay in one corner amongst the val which is bizarrely right next to the filter output but I do use a spray bar with oversize holes to dissipate flow. The show could colour and race around the tank when the BBS go in but theyre a pretty chilled little fish

Can some kind person with vastly better knowledge than I confirm this is a schultzei and not the rarer venezuelanus sp. black please (Google is not being my friend)
I currently have two and want to bring the group up to six, not seen any locally for ages and I don't want to order the wrong thing (his bronze cousin clearly didn't want to miss out on the photo opportunity)

Here is a pic of the cabinet I built for my 29 gallon display tank.
Tounge and groove beadboard makes up the back and side panels, 1 x 3s glued and screwed to the tops and bottoms of the panels. 1x2 crossbrace on the top reinforced with molding glues and screwed in place with trim screws. Gluing is very important for load transference rigidity.
The front crossbrace is more for rigidity of the structure to prevent racking than it is for beam strength.
this construction is overkill for the weight of this tank.
That my friend is a really nice job!

On both of my rimmed display tanks I can slip an envelope under the tank for most of the center span.
there is no contact whatsoever between the bottom of the rim and the top of the cabinet it sits on.
That being the case there is no weight bearing, and no support is needed at all. All bearing is on the side of the tank.
@Pepere so if I go with 2*4 on the load bearing timbers and 2*2 on the cross members I'm good?

I would overbuild the stand. 2X4s would be my minimum. It's better to be too strong than not strong enough. As to the depth of gravel, anything from an inch or so would be fine. If you've already got the tanks or have a good source for them, then kudos. If not, there's a YouTuber called Serpa Designs who recently posted a video on making 28-gallon tanks using Ikea precut glass. Video below. The dimensions might be a bit different than yours, but I thought I'd post it here anyway, just in case.
I've already added this video to my favourites but I managed to find a firm that build tanks for a reasonable cost and negates some of the risk regarding my DIY skills failing and destroying my nice new flooring 🙂

First of all no I'm not talking how do I cycle a tank 🙂
Building work is nearly complete on my new extension/conservatory/fish room (in my mind its a fish room, the better half isn't aware of that.....yet)
I have a perfect spot for fit 4 double stacked tanks, 36" long, 18" tall and 12" deep 28 gallon US 33.5 gallon UK. I'm thinking the lower tanks will sit forward 6 inches for easy maintenance and a slightly deeper footprint for extra stability.
So here are the questions
What would be the minimum thickness for the load bearing timber supports? (there would be a central support between the tanks)
Seriously tempted to go with UG filters but what would be minimum depth of gravel on top for basic plants (crypts, Val, dwarf sag etc)
thanks in advance, your sage advice is always welcome

No, but how big is the tank?
Currently have a 250 litre and a 90 litre. Soon to be adding a couple of 60 litres. Not sure on US gallon conversion
My plan is to keep the flag fish in the 250 and pop it into the smaller tanks as and when required
-
I'm thinking of getting a flag fish to deal with hair algae in my tanks but I'm just a little concerned for my chilli's.
Does anyone forsee issues with that mix?

Hi folks,
Just thought I'd share this as I was mixing up some repashy
I'm guessing lots of us feed frozen foods among our fishes diet and the bubble pack things make handy little portion size containers

I know from watching prime time aquatics they keep green neon's in 7.5+ water so it is very doable

My girlfriend didn't allow me to buy a 'car'. They had another great one on the other side of the room (real car) with an aquarium in the back. To bad I didn't take a picture.
Didn't leave empty handed though. Got some new Harlequin rasbora's, beautifull male Beta and new group of Caradina Blue Shadow Mosura shrimp.
Yes the truck was very good but bizarrely I didn't get pictures either

Great event and good to chat with @Coryand Chris. I even bumped into MJ aquascaping who is also a good dude
found my next car while I was there 😁

@AnimalNerd98I'm thinking of 6 and see if any breeding action happens
@Fish Folkdo you think they'd community breed with enough cover?

Can work. Beware that when water volume is low, healthy water chemistry may prove a bit difficult to maintain.
I'm thinking as I work from home 3 days a week extra water changes aren't a problem especially with such low volumes.
My main concern is whether the rice fish would have enough space?

Hi folks, nearly time for my tanks to move to the new extension and there will be room for a couple more of small tanks 😁
I've got a couple of 6 gallons I use for grow out on my nano fish and I'm thinking rice fish unless the consensus is that's too small?
I can fit two 10's or a 20 long but as the saying goes 'use what ya got'

If you're setting it up to cycle it I'd suggest leaving it to run with no heater for a week.
A large tank won't fluctuate much in temperature due to the larger water volume so check it in the morning and see the difference between actual temperature and desired temperature (stock dependant)
If it's just a few degrees you won't need a very big heater.
You can do the same thing when the colder weather arrives and add a second small heater if needed.
Two small ones is always safer than one large one

It always looks to me like “not tonight honey, I have a headache” 🤣 but who knows what things snails think. In reality it’s mating, I am totally guessing but maybe the female makes the boy “prove” himself worthy. If he can hang on and get there he wins mating rights. I’ve seen 2 boys on one girl and the sort of “headbutt “ with their shell trying to dislodge each other. I envision that as a snail bar fight over a girl. 🤷🏼♀️
Sounds plausible to me

Would Amano eat baby bladder snails?
I've not come across anything other than your normal snail eating fish that touches them

Is there a way to sort by location? It would make looking for local (at least in my state) stuff so much easier....
I've wondered this to, being in the UK it would be useful if maybe location was in the title?

When they climb on each other and the bottom one twists around do we think they're trying to knock the other off or some other behaviour?

So the humble pest snail gets a bad rap generally across the hobby and I really don't understand why.
Admittedly on here there are some more enlightened hobbyists.
I have nerites for the tougher algaes but for entertainment these little critters are great!

I know prime time aquatics has talked about breeding cherry shrimp in their water at 8.2 if that helps
-
I got one of these from Amazon
Mine came with a bracket so you can mount it in the tank.
I only run a couple of tanks so hatch about an eighth of a teaspoon every other day unless I have young fry.
Half a teaspoon of aquarium salt to 300ml of water works for me

I'd love to take you up on your offer but shipping may be an issue lol.
Don't suppose you have any good pictures of yours for a definitive comparison between the two strains?
