@Anita Here is a picture of one of my baby male Everglades Pygmy Sunfish, just starting to get his gorgeous colors. I find the captive raised fish to be much more outgoing than their wild-caught parents.

@DanielI thought so as well, and had heard from a local fisherman (Instagram Species.Spotlight, I am in no way affiliated but he is a great local resource) they were there. Unfortunately the mud was deep and the weeds were choked with wood. I am excited to return since an aquarist goal of mine is to catch and breed all five non-endangered varieties of Elassoma.

Looks like it has been almost a fortnite since I last posted; yikes! Really cool update for everyone though. First, the bad news. The first batch of eggs posted fungus'ed on me; I guess I need to wait until the system is a bit more mature.
Now the good news! I was able to do a bit of wild fish collecting while in Orlando a few days ago. Although I was looking for Elassoma okefenokee, I was very happy to have found a group of Lucania goodei instead! I was able to bring back 5, along with a group of H. formosa and a couple of linned topminnows!

@Anita and @OceanTruth Unfortunately i have noticed that they need to remain affixed to whichever object they are attached to. It grows quickly and covers the thread it is attached with in a very short amount of time. Next time I make a Riccia stone I'll post it on here.

@OceanTruth It is a great plant when wrapped around a rock to anchor it in place. The only issue is the little pieces can float on the top and get everywhere if you do not net them out.

In each of the shrimp tanks I am using riccia flutians as both natural filtration and a cover for the shrimp. The growth is a soothing green and it is very easy to take care of. I simply tie it to lava rocks from my garden with black thread and drop it in. Shrimp love and my water is crystal clear with just a sponge filter.

There are populations of wild Neos that are dark like that. Could be "by-catch" from the shipment your Amanos came in with either from the exporter or the wholesaler. Crustacean Research 47: 9-16 (2018) (jst.go.jp)

I love an ADA cube with a big clump of Buce in it. Wild jungle meets clean, aesthetically pleasing lines. Looks great!

@ChemBob No other purpose except to keep the floating plants from running off. Im using foam pipe insulation tube here, pool noodle would work great as well (and comes in fun colors!)

@AnitaAbsolutely! A great idea and I plan to do so. For quick stuff though, I feel confident that I can slide the aquarium out and grab fish, shrimp, etc for a min or two and slide it back into place.

Very neat set-up! Love the livebearer combo.

@OceanTruthIts a super cool way to grow them. Since the water is salt, no mosquitos can live in it, which is a huge bonus. One day I'd like to try it with a salt water daphnia strain.

Very, very clean design and execution. I am excited it planted over the coming weeks!

@OceanTruth They will not accept flake foods right away, although I suspect they will take Vibra-bites. By far the easiest thing to feed them are micro-worms grown with mashed potato mix. Mine gobble them up!

An Aquarist's Journey

Unfortunate news to report, I have lost all of my L. goodei. My guess is they were not as tough as I thought and despite frequent water changes for the ammonia spike, they all ended up dying. Unfortunately, I think the aquarium I placed them in wasn't "seasoned" enough.
Everything else is going well. The tissue culture crypts are starting to convert nicely.
