  1. Noticed one of my fiance's cherry shrimp has a clear segment on him. Is it a molting error? What should we do to make sure he's safe and okay, or is he doomed? My gh kit is expired but I have ordered another. There's crushed coral in the substrate, and they're fed a variety of food including some calcium enriched foods like shrimp cuisine. pH is about 7.7, temp is 79 EDIT: Ran out and got new GH KH kits. GH is 10 KH is 3
  2. Weekly water changes of about 25%. It's been cycled for 3 months, Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate roughly 20 ppm. Id be really surprised if it was algea. It doesn't resemble anything I've experienced before?
  3. I don't know how I forgot to add those... Thanks!
  4. This tank is about two months old. The stick originally had this biofilm on it that I've just been scrubbing off, I assumed it was the same as the stuff that normally forms on drift wood. Today I noticed it's starting to grown on my plants too. What is it and what should I do? There's a nerite hanging out in there, but he doesn't touch it. The tank is a low to mid light low tech set up, and is on an 8 hour light period
  5. Honestly that wouldn't surprise me either. He's a cheeky one. I hope it's that and not something wrong
  6. Hmm I hadn't considered that, but I'd be surprised. I'll pick up a different kind of food and see if that does the trick.
  7. If anything, water parameters have improved. His behavior changed a little bit when I added a couple new plants to his aquarium 2 weeks or so ago, but I figured he was just enjoying all the hiding places. I've only had him since December 24th, so it's hard to say for certain, but I did notice he isn't as wiggly as he had been. Other than that, he looks entirely healthy. His eyes and colors are bright, nothing looks off externally. What should I do?
  8. I currently own 3 bettas, and up until recently, all have had the typical "garbage disposal" appetites. I like to keep a relatively mixed diet, so i have a handful of different foods ranging from dried, frozen, and repashies. My newest betta was a big fan of the typical diet up until a week ago, and now refuses to eat anything except for frozen thaw adult brine and (if i'm lucky) freeze-dried blood worm. What should I do? I've exhausted all of my options and I know that you can't exclusively feed frozen thawed brine. He no longer acknowledges flake foods, will spit out pellets and repashy, but has no problems eating the brine. Frozen daphnia seems to small for him to notice as food. For anyone who keeps snakes, I know hognoses can get "hooked" on specific food items and refuse to eat anything else. Could it be a situation like that?
  9. Before the tank was destroyed, these pygmy's were in a 20 long with a Betta and ember tetras. So pretty similar! They're definitely one of those "easter egg" fish where you wouldn't see them for ages and then one day you'd see the whole group out for a swim.
  10. I would, but I want to keep angels or a species of ram in my 30 and am concerned they might become lunch
  11. Ooh that sounds cute. Mine used to be kept with ember tetras and seemed to enjoy swimming around with them. I figured if I went that route, I'd do a low light set up since they're all so shy.
  12. I love pygmy cories, but i've decided that they are a bad match up for my 30 gallon stocking ideas, so I'm moving them into a 10 gal. I'd be fine with having a pygmy only tank, but i think it would be fun to have a top swimmer in as well. Some things I've considered are (Not all at once, obviously): 1 Honey gourami 3-4 scarlet badis. (one male-2/3 female) A suitable group of CPDs for the tank A pair of betta imbellis. (Probably would put in a 20 instead if I managed to get these) I won't be stocking it any time soon, but these are some things I was considering. I'd love some suggestions or critiques for stocking, since it's really about my cories and what's best for them.
  13. haha i have the betta mirror, but he seems to enjoy pushing the floating ball a lot more than he flares at it! I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I didn't think i could love a pet i never touch so much, but the term "wetpet" is very accurate. My betta seems to enjoy playing with different items in the tank, so i think i'll definitely give them a try!
  14. Betta agility? I've never heard of it, but it sounds right for him. He's easily the speediest Betta I've ever owned. Currently I'm trying to train him to flair at a pen haha
  15. Betta. No other fish, only Betta. They're the best fish! Just kidding, but as a lover of Bettas I also love gouramis! Sunset honey gourami would be my pick. They can be moody, but to my understanding are more partial to other fish than other gourami species. Especially if they're more bottom swimmers
  16. especially bettas. little water hogs
  17. I got a new betta two weeks ago, and I've been a bit worried about his behavior. If he can see me in the room, he comes to the whichever glass he can see me through and "wiggles" about or swims back and forth. It looks a lot like glass surfing to me, but he only does it if he knows I'm there and also haven't fed him yet. My other two bettas also will come to the front glass when they notice me, but are not nearly as wiggly/pace-y as the new guy. They just hang out and stare at me. Should I be concerned or is this just a Kuzan thing
  18. When I had a larger tank, I always just had a second filter seeding for when I planned to set up another tank. But since now I only have Bettas, it's not as ideal to have an extra sponge in there for months. Ill give that a shot and see what happens
  19. Oh I've never thought to do this! My other tanks are coming up on their filter cleaning, maybe I should put some of that icky into this one
  20. I'm not sure what it is, but whenever I start cycling a new tank, it develops ammonia eating bacteria practically overnight but is stuck in nitrite for at least a week after. Thankfully my other established tanks are seeding a new sponge filter that should clear this up pretty quickly. I just think it's a little odd that nitrite always gives me trouble, no matter the size of tank I'm working on. (Don't worry, this is fishless cycling)
  21. I can't figure out with this is happening. My 6 gallon tank has a single male Betta in it along with a sword, some pennywort, and a crypt lucens. Its being filtered by a single aquarium co op brand sponge. I feed once a day and fertilize once a week in the water column, and typically do a water change of 25% each week. (Recently it's been more often than once a week because the cycle crashed due to some antibiotics.) Am I doing something wrong? I've never had this happen before, and I used this exact filter only it was in a rectangular tank instead of a cube Edit: the tank is an exact mirror to my other Betta tank with the same set up and stocking. (only it has Lillies and anubias instead of swords and crypts.) That tank doesn't have the same mulm problem.
  22. Peace lilies are my dream plant for a future guppy pond project!
  23. My mans really hooking me up with these posts
  24. My tap water contains 20 ppm nitrate, and I want to optimize my nitrate consumption. Originally I wanted to add pothos to my aquariums, but since it's toxic to cats I just don't want to risk it. (My door is always closed, but it's not worth it to me) I'd like to avoid duckweed/water lettuce since it just takes over faster than I can manage. What would a good plant be that wouldn't be a danger to my terrestrial pets?
  25. I've noticed! The other healthy plant has put off many new leaves and I've only had it a week 🙂
