  1. Well it has been a minute since I have posted any info about these guys so here is the recent update. 1. Females are doing alright they eat well and seem to enjoy the space of the twenty nine gallon. As I said in my last post that there is an dominate female who does not let the other female explore the tank even chasing her when she comes out to eat. The female still seems to be well fed meaning she is catching the live baby brine that swim into her hiding spot in the java moss jungle or she is munching on critters that are growing in the biofilm and mulm. Still I have an idea of setting up a twenty-gallon long and plant it with lots of tall plants that will provide more breakage in their line of sight. 2. Unfortunately I have lost my beautiful male he jumped out of his tank when I had the lid open which I didn't realize until far to late. So I will have to buy another male to have any more luck at breeding these fish. I do hope to get another male but not right away I want to build a more plant heavy set up before I do that. Because of recent events I probably won't have much to offer for the journal but I do hope to keep it updated from time to time about the status of the female bettas. Thanks for reading.
  2. I would say the big box stores all in one kits. Now I am not saying don't buy one if your a newbie I am just saying that I just quickly bough all different nicer equipment within a few months and it would have made more sense to just buy and aquarium and then buy all the accessories which would have come out to the same price anyways. Also HOB I would agree I spent a decent sum on those for which in the end I exchanged for sponge filters which I prefer anyways as I keep bettas.
  3. I like to crochet, cross stitch, needle felt, or quilt in my spare time. I very much enjoy working with textiles.
  4. Welcome! Glad to have a new/old comer to the hobbyist join the forum. 😀
  5. Welcome! 😀 Glad to have a new hobbyist join the forum. Your bettas are beautiful and I am excited to watch your fishkeeping journey on the forum.
  6. Love the names especially, though I wonder if they are as troublesome as Donald Duck's nephews. I would agree my tail spot pygmy corydora hide most of the time except for two whom I assume are females. They love to swim as a pair and explore the tank they are really cute.
  7. This is what triggers burnout for me just getting tired of having the same fish/scape. I do not have an infinete amount of room or money to get more tanks and fish which doesn't help the variety problem. However I think the solution and als time has come to rehome some of my fish and add new ones. A very interesting topic to think about.
  8. I couldn't quite tell but is the fish swollen? Or pineconing?
  9. I mean you could maybe do some pygmy corys
  10. I would assume that the parents would have quickly eaten any fertilized eggs. I used a five gallon plastic tub which I filled with spawning mops, a sponge filter, and the ratio of males to females that whitecloudynasty suggested here. I quickly had fry I only kept the parents in the tank for about three days before I pulled the parents and it was a few days after that I began to see young fry. Not saying this is how you should do it just that this is how I did it.
  11. Welcome to the group we are glad you could join us. 😀 I look forward to seeing you around the forum.
  12. Quick update all the Betta Mandors are doing well the females will often chase each other and definitely the newest female seems to be the dominate female not really allowing the other female to swim around so I am going to have do something about that. Also it seems that the male was carrying eggs because he eventually stopped puffing his cheeks about four days after I removed the female. I did not see any fry so I am assuming he swallowed the eggs. I am not sure exactly why he did this but I have ideas for the next breeding attempt.
  13. I have a topic posted on this forum where I asked and received help in breeding them. Also if you look around I believe Whitecloudynasty has a journal where he explains how to breed them. They are pretty straight forward to breed.
  14. Placed my newest female with my male three days ago in an attempt to breed. I observed that after being released from the breeder box, in which she was placed to get used to the breeder tank and allow the male to see her without touching her, that the male and female began to fin nip each other. I am not sure if this regular courtship behavior for this species but this is what I observed. The male and female remained together for three days I saw the female little those days she was mostly hiding but the male would come and stare at me. This morning the female was swimming at the front of the tank her fins had holes. Carefully taking her out I returned her to her other tank. The male then swam to the front and he was puffing up his mouth and contracting it. I presume he might be caring eggs. I will keep an eye on him for the next week but hopefully this breeding attempt has been successful. As a side note that while he also tore the fins of my other female when she was placed with him she never tried to interact with him my newest female did. Also there breeding colors are so beautiful truly a worthwhile fish to keep.
  15. JoeQ is right these claims are ab exaggeration while duckweed is small making it slightly more difficult to remove it can be done it just requires some diligent work to remove. I have duckweed and really enjoy having it would recommend as one of the easiest floaters to grow.
  16. Welcome! Glad to have a newer fishkeeper join the forum 😀 We call the urge to have another tank MTS Multiple Tank Syndrome trust me when I say once you catch it is very difficult to cure.
  17. True, also once attached to your tank it is never saying good-bye 😂
  18. If you could give us you water parameters that would be helpful. Also do you remineralize the RO water? I will also tag @Colu for additional help.
  19. Excited that you decided to join the forum! 😀 Your tanks are beautiful.
  20. Well it seems my new female is adjusting well she has already taken to being a little bit of a bully towards Ozma. I suppose this means she and Oz can bond over the mutual interest in bullying Ozma who has done nothing to annoy either except exist apparently. This means that Oz might be getting a new tank mate soon who shares his aggressive nature. As for Ozma I have found that I am far more attached to her than the other two so if anybody has to be rehomed at any point she will not be leaving my care. Anyways nothing more to report.
  21. Quick Update: The new female is doing well she is acclimating well to her knew tank. It took her about three days to regain some coloring she has yet to regain the deep chocolate color that is a betta mandor's natural color. Ozma has tolerated the new addition well allowing the female to follow her around without any signs of aggression. I want the female to gain more coloring before I try breeding her.
  22. Welcome! Glad to have you join the forum 😀
  23. I put the tank in the garbage can and then proceeded to smash in the can helped keep the glass from flying everywhere. It does shatter if you are going to do this be careful!
