  1. @Shadow my ph is at 8 I’m testing my aquarium water  because I’ve been seeing my fish flash for quite some time. I’ve done treatments with prazi pro, flubendazole, para cleanse and salt with no success. Staring to think it’s the high ph,  kh. Seems like there was a change to my city water because I don’t remember it being that high

  2. I want to treat my tank with salt for  parasites but I do have Corydoras in it. I’ve tried a few meds and can’t seem to get them to stop flashing. Any advice on how much salt to use ?

  3. @nabokovfan87 thanks for replying! I first suspected flukes because some of my corys started flashing then some of my tetras started doing it so that’s when I noticed it was spreading and started meditating. I started with para cleanse, following dosing instructions two treatments one week apart.  I didn’t see much improvement and followed with 3 rounds of prazi pro back to back. It seemed to help a little but fish were still flashing. I then let them rest for a month and was still seeing flashing so I tried a one week soak of ich x with little improvement. Finally used fukasol and have seen a dramatic improvement. All the fish in the tank seem fine and eating well but I did noticed those spots on the ram that I had never seen.

  4. I’ve been battling flukes for a few months now. I’ve done several treatments of prazi pro, para cleanse and I think I finally saw improvement using Flukasol which is flubendazole. I’m on the second week of the Flukasol treatment and I’ve noticed one of my Bolivian rams started getting some black specks all over his body. Would this be a different disease or is this normal?

  5. Is flubendazole plant and snail safe? I’ve been dealing with gill flukes for some time and they keep coming back. I used prazi pro three times with one week soak each time but corydoras still flashing.

Rotten egg smell is an indicator of hydrogen sulfide, but what I would be more concerned about is the potential for an ammonia spike due to a mass die off of bacteria. Bacteria that thrives in an anaerobic or anoxic environment will die when they are exposed to too much oxygen at once, which does have the potential to cause bad odor.

I think the most likely scenario is that you just released some gnarly-smelling phenols into the water, which the carbon will take care of. Phenols are naturally produced by decaying matter, especially plant matter, and are the primary reason that an aquarium will smell bad. Occasionally this will happen to one of my blackwater tanks if I uproot a plant because of the botanicals that decay naturally and fall into the substrate.

@NirvanaquaticsWould adding live bacteria fritz turbo start be a good idea? Also how long does the smell last from your experience?

  7. Hi, i have a 40 breeder with a 2-3 inch sand substrate. Last night I did  gravel vac in a few places I normally don’t do. I believe I released hydrogen sulfide because now that water stinks really bad.  I placed a bag of activated carbon, two air stones and increased filter flow. No loses yet but wanted to see if there’s anything else I should be doing to prevent any. Would a large water change help out?

    Thanks

  8. I have a quarantine tank set up with a group of corydora c005. It has a very well seeded sponge filter and all parameters seem to be within normal range, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate, kh 50ppm, gh 150-200ppm, ph 7.6, temp 80. I’m trying to figure out what’s causing them to die with no signs of disease. I have a group of cardinal tetras, espei rasbora and some Corydoras duplicareous in that same tank and all of them seem to be thriving. The only thing I’ve  noticed is that the c005’s are breathing faster than normal. Any ideas on what this could be?IMG_9200.jpeg.2a646a70636f8f45bfd7513def8c921c.jpegIMG_9217.jpeg.b709dd614ba86134aa1d3eb17491bc81.jpegIMG_9203.jpeg.7cab40da2199b5d770de5ed3660bf3a6.jpeg
