Quarantining a sick fish

Hello,

just put a gold barb into a 50litre established quarantine tank due to having a prominent red sore on its back.

the plan was to do 35%water changes for the next 3/4days and then treat with anti bacterial treatment.

is this a reasonable game plan? And also, being a barb that enjoys being in his school, should I worry that he’ll get more stressed by being alone?

any advice and experience would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Have you considered using an aquarium salt treatment right away? Aquarium coop has an article about it on their blog on the store website. It seems it might be worth a try if you are planning to wait to medicate. I think the recommended starting dose is 1 tablespoon per gallon, and you can increase it if your barb doesn't improve.
