gardenman
You get six plants for $42.99 so not a bad price and you're almost to the $49.99 for free shipping at that point. I added in one pot of tissue culture plants (small but you typically get 3-10 or more plants in a tissue culture) so I'll see what I get. It should be interesting. It's a nice way for the Coop to unload stuff they've got a surplus of while still giving the consumer a decent plant at a decent price. I should end up with between seven and God knows how many plants (depending on how many are in the tissue culture) for about $60 after taxes. Not bad.

gardenman
The order has already shipped and they let you know which plants they shipped. I ordered the crypt wendtii 'Mi Oya' tissue culture, and the six other plants are dwarf chain sword, crypt lutea, crypt wendtii green, crypt tropica, red melon sword, and anubias nangi. Not a bad selection. I wasn't expecting them to tell me which plants they shipped. It's nice they tell you and it probably helps with their internal inventory to know which plants they shipped.

gardenman
Yeah, about $53 of plants for $43. Not bad. They'll be here Saturday according to UPS. Adding in the tissue culture cup got me the free shipping also. I'm happy with it. Every order will likely have different plants, but those are what are coming in mine.

It also lets the customer start learning about the plants before they arrive. One of the biggest struggles in selling plants isn't getting people to buy, it's to get people to be successful. They can start learning about how each plant needs to be planted, where to place it in their tank etc.
Whitecloud09
That is so kind and awesome! I might try it now, Cory!
gardenman
My thought process was that it was worth a shot. I didn't have any specific plants in mind this go-round, so I let the Coop pick them out for me. It gets you close enough to the free shipping point ($49.99) that adding one more thing earns free shipping also. They don't sell any plants I can't use, so it was very much a no-lose situation.
gardenman
UPS is interesting. Last night at 10:21 PM ET they sent me an email with a shipping update advising me my package of plants was now delayed until Tuesday. As I type this it's now reportedly on a truck and out for delivery between 2 and 6 today, as originally scheduled. So, yeah. The plants will either be here today or Tuesday apparently. I'm inclined to think today, but who knows?
gardenman
The plants came and they look great. (Photo below.) No real problems. The red melon sword might be a tad leggy but that's more due to the grower than the Coop. Growers tend to crowd plants together in their greenhouses making them a bit leggier. It should fill out nicely now in the tank. I'm very happy. The tissue culture pot gave me two plants by easy division. I could have gotten four or more if I wanted to take the time, but two was enough for me. No obvious signs of snails or other pests. A snail or twenty may emerge later, but for now, no obvious signs of any. If you're not overly picky about what you're getting the mystery box seems like a good deal.
Lynaea
The Co-op definitely has great plants! That melon sword is still sporting its emersed leaves, it will look a lot different once it gets growing in your aquarium.
JoeQ
A great deal! Especially for a beginner to start with a larger plant mass when not knowing what to buy. I would have liked to seen a fast grower in the mix but that is probably more based on preference than anything. Still a quality haul and great idea!

I did this it's totally random, the pickers don't know you ordered the mystery box. The computer randomly generated the list i got a Java fern, Tiger lotus, Anubias,, and forgot what else. 1
MWilk
My first plants ever were a random assortment from a competitor. I like the random aspect, it helped me see which types of plants I can keep alive and which ones are hopeless for me.
