Tropicalfishkeeping201
Hello everyone, My hang on the back filter from my 7 gallon cube rimless tank stopped working after unplugging it to do a water change tonight and now I have to get a new one. Have any recommendations? Please share your recommendations for a HOB filter for a Male Longfin Halfmoon betta that is Self-priming and has low flow for a small tank and a betta. Thank you in advance
AllFishNoBrakes
Are you sure it’s broken? Sometimes when I unplug my HOBs during maintenance the impeller just doesn’t wanna kick on. I stick my planting tweezers down in there, and the impeller kicks right back on. I should probably just clean the housing and impeller and everything, but why do that when you can just jump start the impeller? lol. Also says it’s great for bettas @Tropicalfishkeeping201. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/filtration/products/nano-tank-hang-on-back-filter-1 1

PonyPlantedTanks
I’ve heard good things about the Aquatop Forza I think it’s called. Very affordable and adjustable output so your betta doesn’t get blown around the tank! Or you could always try a sponge filter if you’re interested 🙂 I have the co op sponge in my betta tank and it’s been fabulous! 1

Mrs. Goldfish's puffer tank uses an Aquatop Forza PFE1, and while I've been slowly turning against HOB filters generally, I do like this one. It's easy to clean and has adjustable flow, and, for its size, a reasonable media area if you want to customize. It even came with a prefilter sponge! It does not self-prime, though. 2

AC Sponge filters are very adjustable, I just bought my first one, and it is awesome! It can be on a very level, with lots more flow, or if you want slower flow just turn it down with a airline air controller (which is almost always included with the pump you buy). I 100% recommend it and I have only had it for a few days now 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Here are some quick links to everything you will need for your pump and sponge filter. (I am sure you have owned lots previously and you should be able to find both links but) here they are! https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/filtration/products/aquarium-co-op-coarse-sponge-filter https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/air-pumps/products/aquarium-co-op-air-pump https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/air-pumps/products/check-valve https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/air-pumps/products/ziss-premium-air-valve https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/air-pumps/products/aquarium-co-op-black-airline-tubing But hey, I asked for HOB recommendations. So I am just gonna let u decide. ACs nano hob or sponge filter would be great for your betta. Your choice!!!!! @Tropicalfishkeeping201
Julie Monday
In the interest of preserving aquarium space, I'd recommend a little Marina brand HOB. The "up to 10 gallon" model. It's slim, and has an adjustable flow, and also has a submerged pump with a big plus of not failing after a power outage (for instance). You can add whatever filter media you like, but bulky media (like in a bag) might not fit. This is my favorite filter for really small aquariums that need a HOB. I use these for my smaller aquariums and have never been let down. Also, if you order from Am***n, get the cheaper one. I don't know why the other option is so much more expensive. Just get the cheaper one. They all come with an insert. 1
