best inert substrate for plants

so i strongly dislike my sand.

i really want to keep crypts, and swords also stems but i don't have a high budget so no planted substrates

what would you recommend? i don't mind using root tabs.

I haven't been using it for long so my opinion could change, but Eco-Complete from Caribsea seems to be getting the job done just as well as the non-inert substrates in the other 2 Dirted tank project aquariums.

Time will tell.

Current trying eco complete fluorite just added last night got a lot of mixed reviews ppl saying it will hurt my fish idk why this is theory but will keep updates

I've had crypts and swords do very well with Eco Complete, haven't tried many stem plants but the one type of rotala I had (i forgot what it was exactly) did alright with it
