TravisBumpy
I currently have a 40 gallon breeder. I am wanting a cool schooling fish that would keep my platy numbers in check. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Edited February 6 by TravisBumpy
GoofyGarra
Personally i have had glowlight tetras viciously go after and eat them, thats just the fish i have experience with, many other fish will eat platy fry. Glowlights are pretty cool fish though
TravisBumpy
Haven't had glowlights in ages. That's a good idea. Edited February 6 by TravisBumpy Mistype
Tony s
Platys will eat platy fry. But in a 40g you'd be looking at a massive heard. I have a 20g, just platys, and it's got probably 35. Anywhere from tiny fry to 2-year-old adults. eventually the population stops increasing. I think it's one of my most interesting tanks
TravisBumpy
I have downsized a few times. I think I have flooded my areas market for them. This last time I gave away 49. I still have 7 adults and fry hiding amongst the plants. They are one of my favorite fish. Active colorful. But damn, they can breed.
Tony s
Oh, yes they can. I actually tried to separate males from the females when i first started. But that was way too late. they kept having fry anyway. Now I just let them live out their platy lives in peace. They always seem to have fry around, but the numbers never grow anymore. Which is good. Only takes a little more management to keep their water good. With the help of hornwort. That's where you find most of the fry hiding.
