Diffuser Location

I have a 20L with a Coop sponger filter on the right and a second airstone on the left.  I am adding CO2.  Where should I put the the diffuser?  Was worried about gassing off the CO2 if I put it near the airstone or sponge filter.  So the middle?

You want it placed in an area were flow is best for distributing the CO2 throughout the tank. You actually want to off gas CO2 as best you can and increase injection to compensate. This creates a stable CO2 level during injection.

So as of now I have a sponge filter on the right and the diffuser on the left, thinking that the sponge filter would pull the co2 over throughout the tank.  I did increase my bps, but some of the fish started gasping at the surface by the next day, so I backed off a bit.  They were back to normal in a few hours.

If you see Sprite water everywhere, you should be good to go.
