beastie
So I discovered for the first time ever if I use my artemia sieve I get super tiny mosquito larvae. Do you have any experience feeding them? I usually feed the large ones, sure, but never these one I tried them in white cloud minnows tank, no clue if they even see them, and in my indostomus tank, but I dont know if they will manage to catch them, they are very slow swimmers/eaters Any experience is appreciated. Not like I need more mosquitoes at home, right? 🙂 thanks
Biotope Biologist
Mosquito larvae is a favored snack of many fish. They kinda just eat whatever. So if in time your mosquito larvae grow big enough to eat I say leave them in there. Besides only adult female mosquitoes drink blood, many mosquitos are very important pollinators species. Good for the garden.
beastie
I mean I usually feed mosquito larvae all my bigger fish, they love it, sure. But. Indostomus paradoxus is a super small mouthed fish that is very very very slow hunter. I wonder if it will be able to catch the larvae. Ofcourse they are alone in the tank, so if the mosquito gets bigger, I will have to catch it out of this tank and put to another one, to have some other fish eat it 🙂
beastie
So, given that my tank is now filled with larger mosquito larvae that I had to pipette chase and I had to put in another large fish to help me catch some, I would say no, indostomus wont catch tiny larvae 😄
