ammonia spike

I tested my water and my ammonia is extremely high right now. nitrate is 0 nitrite is 0 ammonia is 2. This never happened to me at all, I did do a water change yesterday did this cause my ammonia to spike up?

Have you checked your tap water?

 

my tap water currently has 1 ppm ammonia in it courtesy of the Water District.

If your ammonia at 2ppm I would do is test daily and do 50% daily water changes and add a double dose of prime to help detoxify any ammonia till it constantly stays at zero it's possible the ammonia spike was caused by over feeding have you used any medication that could have harmed your benefial bacteria if you water company could have flushed the pipes leading to an ammonia spike

I was using prazipro to treat my tank because I had suspected there was a flukes outbreak. 2 days into the treatment noticed my fish were acting weird and one of my angelfish started to lose its ventral fins.
