Grizzly
Hey all I’m looking to try to cut some costs with my fish room if possible and was curious if guppies really need a heater. I live in Wisconsin and my tanks are in the basement. I took a few heaters out this summer and water stayed around 70 degrees but in the winter from previous experience with goldfish know my water temperature is usually low 60’s to 65. I want them to breed and live normally so not sure if that’s possible at a lower temperature. Anyone have info or experience in this?
lefty o
lows 60's is a tad on the cool side. i dont run heaters in mine, and they do get down to about 65ish with no issues. colder and they really start to slow down, and id guess long term its probably not good for them. mid to high 60's no problem and even some dipping below that is no issue, i would however run a heater if they stay below 65 for long periods. 1
Flumpweesel
You could leave the heater in but set to 65 so it protects them from the cold spells but doesn't run constantly. 1
