RobsFishWorld
I just purchased Easy Green from the Aquarium co op website cause I heard great things about it. My question is does algae feed on it as well. I followed the directions on it 1 pump per 10 gallons and I have a 60 gallon so that’s 6 pumps. I put some in my tank and the next day I noticed a lot more algae everywhere more that normal.
Fish Folk
Short answer…. Yes. Sort of. Algae utilizes the same resources as any of your plants. If your plants aren’t maximizing available nutrients + light + dissolved gasses, algae will “get happy.” You can cut back a bit on dosing Easy Green. Just feed with EG once a week. I usually just dose when I water change. Alternatively, add more plants 🌱 🪴 😎 4
Bev C
i have 55 gallon tank when i started out i follow the directions and it was to much .plus i did not have allot of plants I learnt the more plants you have it helps control algae . better i would cut the dose down maybe half and do that for 2-3 weeks when you change the fertilizer dose it is best to wait 2-3 weeks to see if it is working or not then after 2-3 weeks add a extra pump if needed and keep raising slowly one pump at a time till you plants look better ,,, do not forget you might have to adjust your light intensity and light time too Edited September 14, 2022 by Bev C 2

Pepere
By golly. If anyone could invent a water column fertilizer or light that would only grow plants and not algae they would make a fortune!
RockMongler
Yeah, mirroring other responses, you might want to tune your Easy-Green use based off the plants you have. If your plants aren't using the nutrients, the algae will.
Pepere
Light intensity and period, nutrient levels, and co2 levels. Three levers you can pull to try to get aquarium in balance to minimize Algae… getting it right is a challenge….
