skillet
Was gonna shorten green plastic at top of sponge filter. Does this create any problems? Also how much can you shorten it?
quikv6
I am assuming you are talking about an uplift tube. (I believe only the Co-op's tube is green, but other manufacturers are clear. ) You can take it off completely if you'd like. Shortening it shouldn't cause any issues either. Perhaps there's a very small, negligible difference in lift. Do what works best for you and your tank.

Tihshho
The longer the uplift tube the more vacuum you get. The more vacuum the more water will get pulled through the sponge. IMO I wouldn't shorten it if you want peak performance of the filter.
Brian
I only use sponge filters in my fry or spawning tanks. Once in a while I will use sponge over the intake for a filter. I’ve never completely removed them. But I did make them longer. Good Luck
