BigJ
Decided last spring that I wanted to start a water garden so I went down to the lake and collected plants for it and got it started, everything died back over winter (except the mosquito fish and some of the snails) but this is how it is now. I am toying with the idea of putting some more colorful fish in and was wondering if anyone has ideas it's probably 12-15 gallons.
Tihshho
What lilies are those? I really enjoy the small pads! Depending on your climate zone, you might be able to get away with Medaka/Ricefish. I would pull the Mosquito fish though as they tend to be a little fiesty. Being that this is a metal washbin, I would stray away from shrimp just incase some metals leach or there is any trace copper. Should be a steel bin, but never know if there are bi-metalic rivets sitting in there.
BigJ
All of the plants in the tub are from the lake you can see in the background so I don't know what variety it is. It blooms white with the flower opening at dawn and closing at dusk. If anyone can ID any of the plants that would be appreciated
BigJ
Just thought I'd post some progress pics. Also wondering if anyone has a solution for pond algae besides embracing it.
L_goodei200
That water lily reminds me of the US native species Nymphaea odorata, is it fragrant? I have one in one of my tubs this year, but mine doesn't look quite that good.
BigJ
It hasn't bloomed yet, I'll make note of that when it does. Thanks for the input

Putting some barely straw in the water seems to work really well.

Barley releases a small amount of hydrogen peroxide when it decomposes I think. Enough to hurt algae but not anything else.
