Zac
For those that casually breed livebearers, Do you guys eventually run into deformities from inbreeding or do you take the fry out when the mother gives birth to avoid the inbreeding? I’m not looking to get the most perfect fish and cull the ones that aren’t perfect (sure maybe the ones that have a serious defect but that’s it). I’m just looking for something fun to do on the side. I guess I should ask this…how do you guys breed your livebearers?
Fish Folk
You can go a few generations deep before major deformities set in. Separate males from females for best results. Lots of tanks is the way pros do it. I just let them stay in a colony, and pull out pretty ones / cull sickly ones…
lefty o
if you are line breeding, you will want to do some out crossing every few generations. pile of guppies in a community tank on the other hand will almost never run into a problem.
