Waricks
I have had this piece of wood in my tank for about a month now. It is Mopani Wood that was purchased from my local pet shop. I have noticed that a layer of fuzz has grown on top of it. Is this normal?
Dark River Aquatics
Perfectly normal! It’s called biofilm, it’s harmless and very common on newly submerged pieces of wood and will disappear as the wood ages - shrimp, snails, and some species of fish love to snack on it too

nabokovfan87
Might be some algae starting, just keep an eye on it.
Waricks
Okay. I didn’t think about that. I will watch for other growth. I hope that’s not it.
Jeff
If you don't like the look of it, you can scrub it off with a toothbrush.
