Hey all!

I've been a long time lurker and fan of Corey and the site and decided it was finally time to make a forum account. I grew up with aquariums in our house. My dad had fresh and salt water aquariums, some of my favorite fish were Discus because of the amazing color and our Fire Eel 'Nemo' who would spend hours playing hide and seek with you in a PVC tube we had buried. Since then I've started my own 20g planted freshwater tank which has unfortunately crashed due to a huge renovation we were doing in our home. I went from about 18 fish and close to 80 RCS down to 1 fish and plants that are now dying as well.

So I'm in damage control mode and watching to see what survives. Once we are done with renovations I am going to try and re-establish the tank and start a second smaller one for a shrimp tank. Look forward to learning and interacting with all of you!

Sorry for your loss.

If you haven’t done a near complete water change already, that’s what I would do.  Possibly do this a couple times.  It gets the bad juju out and a fresh start for the tank.  Drain it down to as shallow as the remaining fish will tolerate.  Make sure the temp and pH of the new water is reasonably close.  Pre-mix the new water with your dechlorinator and run an airstone in it for a few hours when doing this large a water change at once.  Give it a few hours after adding it to the tank to make sure the fish is stable before adding your ferts.  Good luck.

Pretty much what I have been doing but there was no salvaging it.. So I am letting what survives now do so until we finish then I plan on draining and establishing the tank again. This time I'll have a quarantine tank setup as well and I can avoid introducing snails to the tanks too (I hope) lol...
