Robinowitz
How long can I travel with new guppies (3-4 trios) in bags. I have a seller telling me they will survive in a breathable bag with some stress coat (no other chemicals or medications) for 10 hrs or more safely. I have no experience with this other than getting fish home quickly from the LFS.
Fish Folk
A breather bag allows oxygen in and carbon dioxide out through the plastic. You use no air in the bag itself. I ship fish all over the country, taking more than 72 hrs often, and (knock on wood) they’ve all survived. So yes, they’ll be fine for 10-hrs + in this bag. Just wrap in paper towel, pad in a styro, and make sure to avoid temperature extremes. Now, fish can live a long while in normal non breathable plastic fish bags bags. Just be sure there’s loads of air. I like using ca. 16 oz water, or 1/3 water to 2/3 air. Every time I take fish to club auction, they are in a bag like this for 10-12 hrs. They do fine. Everyone bags this way. Long answer short… the fish should be just fine if they’re healthy going in, carefully bagged, kept from temperature extremes, and carefully acclimated at home. I really didn`t understand how these bags worked, neat idea. Years ago, a LFS used oxygen tablets for those who lived out of town, I don`t think they charged for them, but you could buy a package if you wanted. Those tablets gave customers a piece of mind, I never heard any complaints.

The gist of it I’ll quote…
