Chrisdenn1122
I’m new here…I have a 20gal community tank and a 10gal betta tank. I have a question about sealing aquarium decor and wondered if anyone has experience with plasti dip. I read it is safe for aquariums, but I accidentally bought the plasti dip glossifier, and was wondering if it is also safe for coating aquarium decor. Hope this question is okay. darkG
I don't know. The SDS is a bit alarming: "Suspected of causing cancer. Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child. Causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure. Harmful to aquatic life. Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects." It is often the case that hardened pruduct is less of a problem. But yeah. (Ordinary Plasti Dip also have the "Toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects" label.) Also the glossifier might not adhere well to your decor. Edit: And welcome! Edited January 19, 2022 by darkG
Chrisdenn1122
Thank you for your reply. I actually coated the piece yesterday before I realized it was the glossifier. I got very concerned and decided to toss the piece rather than risk poisoning the fish. I hated to lose it, but better safe than sorry! Thanks, again! Biotope Biologist
There are several brands now that make animal safe resin sealers. I believe you can find a handful on Amazon now even. These are usually used to treat plywood for large aquariums or indoor ponds. I have also had luck shopping on herp (amphibians & reptiles) sites if Amazon doesn’t carry exactly what you are looking for
Chrisdenn1122
Thank you! I will check Amazon.
