paarkrosis
Has anyone used the hygger HG-908 sponge filter in their 10gal tank? Is it too big or about the right size? Also, how would you go about making the switch from a HOB to the sponge filter? Having them run at the same time and then remove the HOB after so many weeks? Guppysnail
I have not run the hygger one but had one similar with dual sponge and ceramic balls in a 10 it always seemed “in your face” when looking at the tank to me the way the fine sponge clogged it was a pain to clean for me I switched to two Coop nano sponges one in each back corner i was able to hide them more effectively and they got the job done. I would use 2 small with heavy bioload. Still less noticeable. yes run both for a few weeks or a month until the sponge is seasoned properly. Remove the hob but keep it in a bucket with an airstone for a day or so to be sure your sponges are doing the job Edit two small not medium Edited December 17, 2021 by Guppysnail
Gideyon
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but what I would do is take out the HOB media, place it in the tank next to the sponge, and start running the sponge with the HOB off. I did that to my 10 when I switched off the HOB to use a sponge instead. Mine was fishless though. It didn't affect my cycle.
Gideyon
Also, your substrate has bacteria as well. So removing the HOB won't completely crash your cycle. .... No experience with the hygger. I use the Aquarium co-op sponge for a 10. It is bigger than I'd like, but I really wanted to use less power.
