CALCITE to change PH

I believe that calcite is mostly calcium carbonate (may contain other minerals like iron and magnesium, and is often found in reef tanks. I believe that it could/would raise the pH and hardness in your tank. 

Yes, it should be similar to crushed coral (essentially same building blocks).
