Patrick_G
A big wind storm is coming to Puget Sound so power outages are on my mind. Has anyone found studies on how long the beneficial bacteria can live in a HOB tub without flow? I remember reading something saying they are durable and even with little food they’ll survive quite a long time.
Biotope Biologist
Do you have some battery powered air pumps? It is the lack of oxygen that kills the beneficial bacteria however I think they can be dormant for quite some time, without any negative impacts on their population.

I’ve read a study with the same conclusions, but I can’t remember where I found it. I have a back up solution for air driven and 110v filters but right now at least one hob would be without power. If we do get a extended outage it’ll be a good experiment to see if that filter is still viable. Edited September 17, 2021 by Patrick_G
