Wyldsyren
Greetings everyone. I'm posting a picture of my female Cory that has had a swollen eye getting worse over 2 years. I have tried paracleanse, ich x, maracyn, fungus cure and general cure from api, sulfaplex from seachem. Ph is 7.6, temp 76F, nitrates between 20-40 (twice a week water changes), no ammonia no nitrite, Kh is 1. Live plants some random Java fern looking plant, Water wisteria, anubias golden and nana. She does eat and lays eggs every once in awhile when I water change to 65-67F. Comes to the front every morning to blink with her other eye waiting for food, weird Cory haha. I do let her kidneys rest for 7 days and use carbon to remove the meds after the full treatment for 24 hours then back to regular sponge filter only. Sponge filter was in main tank for several months before using it in hospital 5 gallon plastic tote/ 8 gallon glass tank. Swapped tanks after 8 months from first treatment to plastic tote and had that running for 4 months with same sponge. The readings were from main tank she is in now since she started getting real pale. Hospital tank was the same except nitrates were barely readable and only water wisteria with crushed coral to bring ph up. Tap water is 7.2 then drops to 6.8 after a few hours with an air stone. Colu
If it's been going on for 2 years it's unlikely to be a bacterial infection it could have injuryed the eye at some point causeing fluid build or damageing fluid sacs and tissue damage at this point I don't think meds will have any effect it would probably need the eye surgical removed Edited May 30, 2021 by Colu
Wyldsyren
Yea, im starting to think it was an injury from the start. I debating on performing a salt treatment for a month and see what happens. I wanted to wait for her to lay eggs again to try to raise some fry ( for the fifth time, I keep failing). Sources say to use Epson salt which i have, also have instant ocean sea salt which i use for hatching brine shrimp. Some more info unrelated, she was purchased as a 6 pack. Have 4 left of the original 6 as 2 mysteriously vanished. I'm guessing jumped and either cats or dog had a snack. Main 30g is heavily planted with several hundred Malaysian trumpet snails and a some bladder snails along with about 100 or so mixed guppies I've been strain mixing. The twice a week water changes are going to be increased to 3 times a week just waiting for some equipment to arrive. If anyone need more info let me know
Colu
It wouldn't hurt to treat with salt I would treat with epsom salt bath 1table spoon for 2 gallons for 15 minutes no more then 2-3 time a day for a couple of days
Wyldsyren
I'll try the salt treatment this week and keep it posted. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
Wyldsyren
Also if it helps any, nitrates in 30 gallon ( where she is housed currently) is between 40 and 80. 3 times a week water changes have started. A week in and I was able to drop it to 20-40 by next water change. Moving half the guppies to an outdoor pond at my vacation home a few hours out, figure it'll help with high nitrates.
