Ben C.
Hello! Well I fell for the trap and got some Chili Rasboras and didn't check the bag carefully before leaving and well, yup, there's imposters among us. I have seven of them, at least 2 are actually chilis, 1 is a phoenix, definitely a few uropthalmoides but the others I can't tell for sure yet. Will they be stressed not having a full school/shoal of the same species, or will they do fine as a loose group (I mean heck they do look really similar unless you stare em down). They schooled very tightly when they were first put in QT because of stress, and now that they are more relaxed they do loosely hang around each other. Just wondering whether or not I should bring them back and try to single out the exact species. Thanks in advance!
Tyler LaZerte
@benchilton It depends. If you just want a fun aquarium, keep them! If you want to keep lines pure and only breed chilis, I would single out the chilis. It's really up to you if you want a fun shoal or a group of all chilis 😁
Patrick_G
Aren’t Chilis more expensive and more colorful than Exclamation Points? I think I’d be a little disappointed.
Ben C.
@Tyler LaZerte awesome thanks! Yeah not really looking to breed them, just wanted to make sure they won't have lesser quality of life.
Ben C.
@Patrick_G I believe so. I'm hoping it's not too big of a difference...they're all still young and pale right now. Edited May 17, 2021 by benchilton

Maybe you could simply watch them for a day and see if they act stressed, and if they shoal together. If it turns out they're chill and shoaling, I'd guess their quality of life is fine.
Ben C.
@CalmedByFish yeah they seem pretty confident shoaling and don't hide away when I approach the tank. But maybe it's because the endlers with them are so bold haha

Ben C.
@CalmedByFish no I mean the endlers are acting as good dither fish - when I've quarantined other species of rasbora alone they tend to be super shy for a while. These are in with some endlers that are more confident and everyone seems better for it!
