One Fry to Rule Them All

So our Gourami fry hatched a number of weeks ago. We had quite a batch! But we had to go on vacation. Upon return, we were thrilled to find that there were still a number left. And then this one fry just started getting big fast. Somehow it had discovered an endless source of protein unknown to its siblings. Before we knew it, this fry was the only one left. 'Tis called a "runner." I know. So tonight, I have written it a salutary recitation. (I might have borrowed parts of this . . . from someplace . . . possibly . . .)

“Three Fry for the Angelfish in the tall tanks,

Seven for the Plecos in their caves of stone,

Nine for Guppy Fish, doomed to die,

One for Gourami on his dark throne

In the tank of Algae where the Shadows lie.

One Fry to rule them all, One Fry to find them,

One Fry to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

In the Tank of Algae where the Shadows lie.”

Sweet poem!! I love it!
So your fry had an appetite for his siblings? Dark throne indeed!

Yeah . . . it can happen with a lot of fish. Master breeder Dean set up his fry system to carefully balance fry growth. Unfortunately, this happened too fast. So yes, we have a single Gourami fry to show for all the trouble of waiting awhile on them. Ho hum! We'll probably give another go at them here. It's interesting to learn through making mistakes in this hobby.
