Jerry
Hello, I am starting a fish rack with 10-20 gallon tanks and after painting one of the ten gallons I found a crack in the support frame is it still safe to use or should I toss it and buy a new one, I hate to waste it even though it’s only $10 and a $5 can of plasti dip. the crack is on the shorter side. thanks for your input, Jerry Edited May 5, 2021 by Jerry Added photo
ScottieB
If it’s just on the non-load bearing plastic rim and there’s no other damage, I imagine it should be fine. I’ve seen people remove the plastic trim and make a glass brace for the middle (although I wouldn’t recommend that). What that said... what kind of damage would 10 gallons of water do? Are you in the basement with a floor drain or your living room carpet? I guess you just want to ask yourself if it’s worth it and you trust the tank enough. Jerry
Thank you ScottieB, the rack will be in a garage so 10 gallons wouldn’t be too terrible but I would still hate to have fish die if it did bust while I was sleeping
Jerry
Also the crack is on the bottom so there would be weight pushing down on it
FriendlyLoach
I mean, people de-rim tanks up to 10 gallons like this to get a rimless look. They usually are fine, I would do it, but maybe just keep water in it with no fish for a bit to see if it holds.
lefty o
its probably ok. to be safe i would put it on a big mouse pad or something similar, so that the one point where it protrudes down a bunch doesnt push up into the glass and induce a stress point.
