Aquatic Journal
Hello, I am looking for opinions on people who have kept a large amount of fish tanks not in a basement. We are moving in 20 days and the basement is only about 5 feet tall. So, I wanted to put all my tanks on the main floor bedroom. However, I do not know if I should be worried about the floor supporting that weight. I have a rack that currently is holding 7 tanks totaling 145 gallons over 10 feet and a 90 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump. Should I be worried about them or what else can I do? MickS77
I would want support the floor with Jack Posts in the basement. Things I take into consideration are: wall location interior or exterior; floor joist orientation; sub-floor type old tongue & groove, planks, or plywood osb 2
NordernAquariums
Here is a fairly in-depth article I came across several years ago, it seemed to help me at least be more educated and think about the right things: http://www.african-cichlid.com/Structure.htm
Ben Ellison
Thats a fair bit of weight. I believe water items self weights about 8 lbs a gallon o believe I'd def put the adjustable floor jacks in at the points that line up with the racks load.
