Cement is tough! They make cinderblock basement walls that support an entire house, however these are held together by mortar and 2x8 beams on top. I’m sure it will work. You need to find the right combination. Do you have pictures of the blocks?
I would not stack blocks without mortaring them. I realize you wish to have something inexpensive and do not wish to purchase a stand because you’ll need that money for your 90 gallon tank supplies.
if I had a 90 I would make a 2z4 stand. I realize wood had gone through the roof in price. You may wish to stop into any fish store and ask about making the stand out of the blocks you have.

Oscars, or piranha I would go for, buts that’s because I’ve had 2 Oscar’s in the past; never had piranha, but always wanted a large tank so I could. Keep us updated please 😃 -

How about some South American tetras?
Like black water living tetras May work well in your minimal/no flow tank.
It’s going to be a little difficult without filtration. Will you be having a sponge filter? If so that will open up more choices because you won’t need to do water changes so often.im curious to what you decide, I’ll search 👀 for some matches; can you post your parameters again, tank size, (w/dimensions L”xW”xH”) type of lighting, will you be using Co2, fertilizers? Temperature?

No, I haven’t added any ammonia since. That’s why it’s odd. The only thing I can think of is the canister filter never populated. Maybe due to the high volume of water though in the bacteria could not populate the ceramic rings, but that seems odd as well. I could of had a bad bottle of API… but three my Ammonia would not have went to zero after 48 hours…
I’ll just stick to tetra safe start and see what happens in the next 48hours. Unless you have any other suggestions…

Well I believe the 350 GPH is pretty accurate. You should have seen the water movement…lol. About 4 weeks running and the flow Finally slowed down. (I was using spray bar)
The ammonia I added 2 1/2 weeks after running. Because I was not getting any readings on nitrite or nitrate.
I just wish I could rebuild this whole tank but that’s just too much to ask. I do know I’ll never use Fluval Stratham again Unless I am making a plant only tank.
The 5 gallon water change I did today 10% helped lower the nitrates by half. By the end of the day I am hoping the HOB will catch up. I’m going to add another bottle of tetra start I’m thinking…

Okay I’m dumb founded.
my tank is still not cycled. I think my canister filter is not working problem because of the flow rate too high to get the bacteria to multiply in the media. I purchased a HOB aquaclear yesterday because my nitrites were 5ppm. I added prime and the whole bottle of tetra safe start to help last night. tested in morning and no change still 5ppm. Did a 5 gallon water change. Trying to keep Gary and turbo alive (my cycle mystery snail buddies).
im getting rid of my canister (penn plaxx 1500 and keeping the HOB once the bacteria start their J.O.B.
I’ve never had this problem in the past. BTW my horn wart is growing crazy; so I know it’s utilizing the nitrogen and waste…
should I keep adding bacteria? The API I added in the beginning didn’t do much; although it did remove the fritz ammonia I added, it took 48 hours to do so, but then my nitrites went sky high. That’s when I got the HOB and added the whole bottom of tetra safe start. I read that API doesn’t use water bacteria, but terrestrial. tetra safe start uses 2 strains of water bac. So I dosed it with that.
I know know what others go through I feel like a PLEB. Confused 😐
PS: still have the canister running with the aquaclear 75

I have 2 mystery snails in my 5 gal with plants; I don’t really wish to move them, because of the lower PH (6.5) wouldn’t be good for them from what I read. I would like to move them though. If I do that I’ll have to keep putting pH up buffers because I have Fluval Stratum which naturally lower pH to 6.5.
Ammonia today is low heading towards nonexistent reading.

Yes, I have used Ed Fluval fertilizer plus a few times.
I gave the tank some Frits ammonia and I’ll see what happens after 24hours….

twelve or thirteen days running and my reading is good.
need to wait and add ammonia and see if ammonia will be used by bacteria and plants. Waiting on my Fritz liquid ammonia shipment. Should be here soon. Yes, I’m doing things backwards…lol. Guess that’s what happens when you’ve been out of the hobby 20 years- you forget stuff.

Discus are cool very hard to keep. They need clean water and 6.5ph
i bought an RO buddy for making my own water off chewy.com. It makes 0TDS at 6.5ph
its about 75$ For the 3 stage. I use the 4 stage. You may want to look into something like that for a reverse osmosis. Hooks up to a regular standard faucet I hook mine up to my laundry sink and have a 20 gallon Rubbermaid garbage can which I used to collect the water
If you are going to use reverse osmosis you will have to put aquarium salt in the water as it strips the water of all minerals. I use API aquarium salt.
still cycling my tank though. I bought some girth art and had a. Mail and some worms come with it!!!! So now I’m scared to introduce any fish till Make my water free of parasites. May buy a 5 gallon tank just For quarantine purposes

Do you know how old your filter is? Most reviews I’ve looked Companies recommend replacing or inspecting the mean gasket at one year of use. I to I am going through a learning curve with my canister filter as this is the first canister filter I’ve owned. If the maintenance becomes too much for me I may just switch to a HOB (hang on back), However I wanted to try canisters because they filter much more efficiently and better.

I would not use plumbers grease at least hold off. You may just order a new gasket from Sunsun. But I would check with their website to see what they recommend usually silicon grease will work fine don’t know what the plumbers grease is made of but I would be very cautious.

It’s hard sometimes to see colors from pictures. You may be okay then….
What ph are you aiming for? What type of fish do you plan on caring for?

Check out ick lifecycle. Don’t know if if was on aquarium coop or another site. But it will go through steps to eradicate them.
water changes will help; just be sure to add declorinated water at ph 7.
-increasing temp will speed OCH life cycle.

Isaly is correct! Vaseline is a petroleum product and will also leach into the water toxins. The penn plax website states to not use Vaseline as well. I recommend looking up your filter on their website and contacting them for advice. I have experienced superior customer service with Penn-plax and also Aqueon; when I emailed them. They both responded the next day!

I atarted it I believe on Jan 9. I added api QuickStart and let it run I added fish food for a couple days. Never saw ammonia spike not nitrates. So I purchased Fritz’s liquid ammonia fish fuel about 2weeks after. I added and 48 hours later ammonia at zero. I added 1/2 amount of ammonia again and it didn’t clear fast it took about 3 days. So I waited. Till zero. Then I added my snails a couple of days ago and tested nitrites. That’s when I posted the purple reading. I then added a full bottoms of tetra safestart ( because I read their two marine bacteria strains are the best) The nitrates were tested today and are zero. I’ll never use API bacteria again… I found out they use terrestrial bacterial and you gave to continually add it to your tank every couple weeks otherwise they will not last. API has some good products but I’ll choose another bacterial starter for my tanks in the future.
