  1. I made a makeshift quarantine tank/eventual grow out tank Out of a storage bin.  I had an extra sponge Filter in an established tank.  Added some extra gravel that I had laying around.  I know it wont be a long term solution but if i ever need to quarantine some fish or allow fry to grow out its nice to have around.  I had all the materials on hand so thats an added plus.  Once my usb air pump arrives I won't have excess airline tubing running to it.

I also set up the beginning stages for my 20 long planted tank.  Once my plants arrive on Friday with the USB air pump I will be good to go.

  2. So I recently decided to go down the road of attempting my first planted tank.  I ordered Anubias Nana, Water Sprite, and Amazon Sword from Co-OP that should be arriving Friday..  My goal for this tank is for it to be a guppy tank.  I have a small amount of guppy grass that I had floating in my grow out tank.  Apparently guppy grass is hard to come by in Florida.  What are some other good floating plants to add?  I should mention this will be a low tech tank.

I am going to try reaching out at my local fish club to see if anyone has any floating plants available since my LFS does not.

Also what would be a good amount of guppies for a 20L? I picked up 6 females and 3 males today and they are in my makeshift quarantine tank.

Fun! I'm currently keeping (from left to right) water sprite, Bacopa caroliniana, crypt spiralis, Pogostemon stellatus "Octopus", and Aponogeton crispus in the background of my low tech 20-gallon tank. The bacopa is the tallest so far and I've already trimmed it a couple of times. The pogostemon and water sprite were added more recently, so we'll see if they catch up. I basically just went shopping on the Background Plants section of the Aquarium Co-Op website and bought everything that looked cool. 😂

@IreneI really like the look of your tank.  I am contemplating trying my first planted tank in a 10g.  Thank you for sharing and listing the plants used.

  4. I add the "water treatment" to the tank for the total volume of the tank.  I pour it in right where my python is in the tank prior to turning on the water.  Once the treatment is in the tank I make sure my water is the proper temperature and turn it on.  My thought is that the water flow from the python will help mix it into the tank.  I also keep my sponge filter running to help circulate the water as well.

They could be still settling into their new home as well, so they may be a little reluctant to eat the first day or two. In my experience rams are good eaters, and haven't had problems with them not wanting to eat certain foods, they usually eat pretty much anything I throw in the tank.

I definitely think it was them getting used to their new home.  They have been eating much better and definitely seem to love the bloodworms.

Thanks for the input. If I had to guess, when you pull the impeller up it helps seat it correctly into the housing. I found with mine if I lift it the noise stops, but then pushing it back in, it is loud again which tells me it's hitting the caging. I think it's just the poor design of how the impeller goes into the housing and then pushes into the cage. I had the AquaClear 30 and every time I did a water change I had to fight it to get it going again which is why I was leery of buying any of their other ones. I like their design a lot other than the pump being on the outside. Maybe I'll buy just one to test it out.

I had originally bought a aqua clear 70 to put on my 75 since I had a couple other filters on it. I had everything cut to size and rinsed off. I went to put it onto my 75g and it wouldn’t fit. My 75 has a rim on the inside that wouldn’t allow for the intake tube to fit.

  7. I have only ordered fish out of Florida so far.  The reason for this is they happened to have what I was looking for.  Geographically could play into it in the winter when temperatures are much cooler.  Aqua-hana ships all over and I am looking into ordering from them next.

I think where you order from depends on what you want.  @Cory mentioned and even walked through a couple of the different online websites this evening on his live stream.

  8. I have a Penguin 350 I think that has worked decently.  However no matter what i do one of the biowheels refuses to spin.  I have another penguin on a 20g that I have had nothing but problems with.  I had to return the first one to amazon 3 days after I set it up.  The replacement one works for a couple hours at a time before it shuts off.  In order for it to turn back on I have to lift the intake tube/impeller.  Once I lift it 2 inches or so the filter kicks on.  Luckily I have a sponge filter in that tank as well.

My personal favorite is my aquaclear 110.  It is extremely quiet as long as my water level hasn't declined too much.  I know a lot of people say it doesn't restart after a power outage but I haven't experienced it.  Today I lost power while I was out of the house.  As soon as i got home I went to my tank expecting to have to reprime it, but it was still running.  Not sure if I was just lucky but so far so good.

  9. My 75g tank has a number of juvenile Mbuna. As you can see below I have algae growing on a number of the rocks. Mostly on the ones that are on top. I have read that Mbuna will typically eat algae off of rocks. Apparently mine have yet to get that memo.

Should I leave the tank as is? Or should I add something to remove the algae?
