  1. Having trouble with my Anacharis. Has stopped dead in its tracks. Everything was stable, 72 degrees, then had a bout of Ich and cranked it up to 80. Ich has disappeared but the Anacharis will not grow now. Tank has been 72 for the last 5 days and no growth. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  2. Will give it a try, at work now so will do another partial change when I get home. In retrospect would not have changed 100% of the water
  3. Just did a rescape to add a sand cap and now all the fish in the tank are struggling for air. At this point I’m under the assumption I’ll definitely lose some. How did this happen? Would removing all the water and doing 100% water change remove all the oxygen, even after replacing with new water? Pointed the nozzles high in the air to create as much surface agitation as possible, but worried it might be too late. Nitrates are 0, Ammonia is 0, water looks stable, which leads me to believe it has to be oxygen.
  4. I laid waste to some Scarlet Temple here as well lol
  5. Has anyone had Anacharis or cabomba? Was looking at those two. Like bacopa carolinia too, may go that route as well
  6. Would turning the light up melt crypts? Experiencing some crypt melt and thought it was the hard water but now wondering if brighter light could have caused it?
  7. How do you guys handle water changes? Do you mix tap water with any RO water or Distilled water to soften it, or just roll with the tap water?
  8. Does anyone have any good recommendations for hard water plants? Looking to rescape my tank this week and looking for some stem plants that do well with this liquid rock water here in South Jersey. Thanks!
  9. Pretty sure all my crypts are melting from a PH imbalance. Did a water change and my timer on my CO2 shut off. Think it being off for a few days whacked out all my crypts and they’re melting back HARD. Should I leave the melted leaves in there if ammonia is ok, or trim back?
  10. Any reason why? I just assumed it made it tougher for regrowth if I left it. Ammonia is low tho and could leave it alone if need be
  11. What’s the reason for not cutting them back? Won’t it take more effort for the plant to regrow if not trimmed back? Just curious, thanks for the input everyone!
  12. More leaves melting every day, just going to keep trimming the melted ones off and see what happens. I just put another LED light in the back of the tank so they might not like that change either. Just gonna have them melt and come back I guess. Planning on rescaping next week anyway. Have aquasolum as substrate and want to put a layer of sand on top. Hate trying to plant/put root tabs in, they always end up floating to the top eventually
  13. Pretty up to date with root tabs but little to no nitrates in water after the water change. Would taking out the nitrates with a water change have that much of an effect? I know crypts are primarily root feeders, how much do they actually take in from the water?
  14. Took about 6 of 15 gallons out when I changed out the water
  15. 8 months, and have been doing really well. Maybe temp of the water? Did not match it perfectly and the tank was slightly colder after the water change
  16. Have some serious crypt melt two days after a 50% water change. Would that bring on this sudden melt? Previous healthy leaves as of a day or two before. Parameters stable, with hard water as the main water source around here. Anyone else experience this after a large water change?
  17. For whatever reason, Java moss in my tank is looking thin and wiry with no real mass or bushiness to it. Nitrates steady at around 40ppm and pretty low light to cater to my kuhli loaches. Is it the low light that has it looking like this or is it simply too close to the light, being that it’s on the top part of my spider wood near the top of the water? Dose with Easy Iron, Easy Green, and occasionally potassium as well. Thanks!
  18. Feed him a mix of flake, algae tablets, and sinking pellets
  19. At first I thought my crypts were losing leaves because of a nutrient deficiency. Every once and a while it would be one leaf at a time. But it would always be in a pattern that it looked like something was taking bites of it. Now I think I caught my SAE in the act. Has anyone else experienced these fish eating leaves and vegetation. Feed once a day but maybe that’s not enough for him particularly?
  20. Had anyone experienced aggression with SAE’s? He’s well feed and bullying all the otos that get remotely near the algae wafers at the bottom corner of the tank. Tank is well planted and plenty of spots to hide/hangout. Probably going to have to re-home him at some point just because he’ll get too big for that tank, but curious if anyone who’s kept them found them to be territorial or aggressive. Thanks!
  21. Have a Fluval Flex 15 with the following fish and plants 7 Neon Tetras, 3 Rummy Nosed Tetras, 3 Kuhli Loaches, 3 otos, and 1 SAE Vallisneria spanning the entire back of tank, 4 crypts, 1 Amazon sword, and Java moss on a piece of spiderwood (moss turning brown) Nitrates hover around 5-10, Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0. Co2 injected and dose with Easy Green twice a week and iron and potassium once a week. Is it over stocked? There are points where I feel like I need to add more macro and micros because they’re low. Tested for Phosphorus, which has been low as well. Is this the case because most of the fish in the tank are considered low bioload fish?
  22. Have had the Fluval Flex 15 gallon and love the tank. I have one power head positioned to agitate the water and one positioned down to push down CO2 bubbles towards the bottom of the tank from the diffuser. However, my tetras spend most of their time at the bottom of the tank at the base of the spider wood. I’m thinking it’s because the power head that’s positioned down is creating a current down at the bottom of the tank and the tetras are swimming against it. Does anyone else have this tank and how do they position their power head nozzles on it?? Thanks!
  23. @Jungle Fanis Mironekuton, a powder that is added to the substrate before starting the tank, or is that something that can be added post setup? Never heard of it and would definitely give it a try. Going to start dosing with some liquid iron and potassium as well, as some of the crypts do have tiny pin holes. Will see how this goes and hopefully it solves the problem!
  24. Experiencing a little sword melt. Tank started in February 2021, this sword was one of the first plants in there. Been dosing with easy green once a week and CO2 for about a month for maybe 6 hours a day. Ammonia .25ppm and Nitrates 5ppm. Have just added root tabs but would the CO2 cause the sword roots to sap all the nutrients from the soil? Using Seachem Aquasolum. Thanks for any help!
