What is the tank size? Its hard to tell from the picture and that would influence what would be recommended.

White Cloud minnows always come to mind when thinking of a fish for a tank with some flow. But I have congo tetras and medium sized barbs in my higher flow 75 gallon. There are some loach species that apparently eat snails and should do fine with flow but again, it really depends on tank size.

    It's a 75 gallon tank

  2. Looking for some fresh water fish that like flow. I have a power head on the right side of the tank position to blow across the top to create surface tension because I had a hard time getting the canister filter outlet to do so. Any suggestions?? Also looking for something that likes to much on small snails. Some plants I had for another tank had some eggs and we have a little bit of a snail outbreak. Thanks!

  3. Does anyone have any good high temperature stem plants to recommend? The tank hovers from 80-81 and is medium to low light. Have a lot of swords but currently nothing besides some Pogostemon feeding from the water column. Just set up the tank and want to cycle with some plants in there. Thanks!!

This looks like the type of material that is used

How does this material work with a light approve it, love the idea and it's just what I have been looking for! With my 2 year old, hot wheels would have ended up swimming with the fishes without any kind of lid.

  5. Starting a 75 Gallon tank and curious how/where everyone with bigger setups finds driftwood for their tank? Does anyone scavenge it or use pieces they come across on the beach? Or is it better to bite the bullet and spend the money on the more expensive pieces some aquarium stores sell online? Thanks for any feedback!

  6. Well used tank, but 75 gallons! Biggest tank I’ve ever done and my 2 year old loves the fish in my 15 gallon. Building this for him as much as me. I want Angelfish and Rainbows in a community setup. Does anyone have any suggestions on angelfish setups? From how to arrange the decor, to the keeping of the actual fish. I have two thriving small planted aquariums and am really looking forward to getting this setup now that we have the space! Would like some bottom dwellers to go along with the angels as well as a potential school of smaller (but not snack sized) tetra or other fish. Looking forward to everyone’s thoughts and setups!

Are the water parameters different? What other differences may there be (temperature/ temp fluctuations)? Is there an age difference (the orb more mature?) or predators? Try and list the differences then you can work towards a probable answer. Is there something in your tap?

The flex runs at about 75 degrees with a heater and the biorb is strictly room temp. Biorb is older but both tanks are old and very established. Nothing in either tank that would eat the shrimp either. I do use ferts in the flex for my plants. Easy Green, Easy Iron, and Seachem Potassium, all invert friendly

  8. Currently have a Biorb 5 gallon and a Fluval Flex 15 gallon. The biorb houses my neo caradina colony and they’re thriving. However we are moving and I’d like to break the biorb down and move everything to the flex so I can set up the biorb at the new house and let it cycle. The last time I had shrimp in my Fluval flex, for whatever reason the shrimp never made it. They would die during molting because they couldn’t break out of their own shells. Is it the water quality? I NEVER change the water in the biorb, literally just top off because the shrimp produce such little waste. I do about 30% water change every two weeks in the Fluval flex. Would this be why the shrimp have issues molting? Same tap water going into both tanks. Thanks!

  9. Does anyone have experience with fish tumors or growth. One of my tummy nosed tetras has an off looking tumor on it. Otherwise completely normal. Has anyone dealt with this in this particular species?883B7279-C7E2-4C63-A2B5-183DD77DC406.jpeg.646f961c55f1ae56687f3d5b3fea86e8.jpegA72D341B-ED03-4ABB-B59D-A5B6E89B354D.jpeg.de42f2ae4a87a836fecf992d0d85c03a.jpeg

  10. Recently moved our cat tree next to the tank dresser and have since been losing fish. Pretty confident it’s nothing to do with quality and that the fish are stressed by the cats. Several water tests and nothing out of the ordinary. Has anyone else got any experience with cats stressing livestock like this?

  11. Unfortunately lost my honey gourami this evening 😞 noticed some signs that may be related to it’s death, and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience? He was hanging down at the bottom, or the top with little movement/swimming. Yesterday he looked better, but didn’t eat anything when I fed them. This evening I came home from work to see him dead at the bottom of the tank. I keep him with neon tetra, rummy nosed tetra, kuhli loaches, a peacock gudgeon, and a SAE. All of them are fine and very lively. After testing the water, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 30 nitrates, 7.2ph, 77 degrees. Has anyone noticed similar issues with this fish. Have had him for 6 months and never had an issue before. Changed 50% of the water this evening in case it was some kind of disease. Thanks for any help!

It’s a all in one reaction tank.  You make the solution yourself.  400g citric acid + 400g of baking soda (both food grade available on Amazon) + 600ml of filtered water I used RODI reverse osmosis DI, you can use distilled water for purity also.  So far mine has lasted a week with 1-2 bibles a sec.  I think my solenoid is faulty though it worked great for the first couple days on the timer then it’s still allows a trickle of CO2 through after the solenoid shuts off I don’t know if that’s residual pressure or a bad solenoid so what I have done it’s just operate it manually now.

I suppose I have to order a new solenoid through Amazon their website where I got the machine.
I recommend a CO2 checker that you attach to the interior wall of your tank with a suction cup to monitor so your CO2 levels do not go high at night time.

Awesome! Thanks for the pic of the setup

I bought the Clscea G700s 2.3L cO2 system and so far for two days I love it!  I have the solenoid hooked up to a timer to run during the day and off at night.

Where do you get that tank filled at once empty? That’s where I’m having a tough time

  14. What does everyone use for their nano CO2 setups? I have a regulator that screws onto a paintball tank. HOWEVER…quickly learning nobody fills paintball tanks anymore, so starting to realize that I may need a new setup. It’s a shame because this was super easy. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks!

I have been following the Aquarium Coop water change guide because I started using easy green.  I am still fine tuning but have been doing 30% every 2 weeks.  Like everyone will tell you, every tank is different and may need different maintenance.  I am in South Jersey as well.  I remember getting a cheese steak in North Jersey and it had potato’s on it.  I am still scarred.  😀 Not sure where you other South Jersey people are exactly, but I am 10 minutes from the Aquarium Center in Blackwood.  It is a great store.

Yes! I’m about 20, love that place!!

Am I right that there is no food loyalty like East Coast food loyalty? Have you ever traveled ways out of state and found that no one really knows how to make proper Pizza? I once even refused to rat out a hoagie shop where I got food poisoning because I knew how devastated I would be if they ever got in trouble. (I told the manager privately later)

    Just sayin . . .

Went to school in NC and would relish the opportunity to go out when home on breaks for LEGIT cheesesteaks

I am trying to move to zero water changes because I’m also in Jersey and dislike the chloramines! But my water is actually really good except it’s low in KH but I buffer with coral , I would just caution that there are many elements in the tank we do not test for, so sometimes water changes could still be beneficial for adding, or reducing something in the unknowns, but if you get a plant load high enough, I think it would truly eliminate the need like Charles from goliad farms, although in that case he has the benefit of being outside, in the sun, with tons of natural processes happening which is very difficult to replicate indoors, I do have one tank that has had zero water changes since June, going strong.

@Streetwise is the resident expert in no water change systems, I have been meaning to pick his brain but haven’t had the chance yet.

Thanks for the input, with this water quality I don’t really see any benefit of taking out all the fertilizers by doing a water change, only to replace them later. Maybe if the water change was strictly RO water or something?

    • Thanks 1
  18. Forgive me if this is a silly question, but if a tank is balanced, what good are water changes? If after testing, parameters are stable and in line with where they are meant to be for healthy plants, should water changes still be done? What does it replace other than nitrates? Water quality isn’t the best here in South Jersey, so wondering if I should just be periodically topping of with RO water or something. Just curious on everyone’s thoughts. Thanks!

The tank looks great btw.   Pretty heavy planted.  Maybe dose 2 pumps every 4 days with the co2.  I know they can burn through the ferts fast on co2.  A guy here in wichita does a 75% water change through out the week because of his ferts. He runs co2.  Is that extreme?   Maybe but his plants are awestriking

I do a 40% water change every two weeks. Maybe not enough? Ammonia and Nitrates are always fine

It looks great. Are you already dosing the easy green at the high light level?
You mentioned some of the stem plants browning at the base. That could be a nutrient deficiency or it could be that you need to do a little trimming. I cut off the tops and replant them. It’ll let more light get to the bases.

I’m thinking nutrient deficiency, just unsure what. I think it’s either Phosphorus or Potassium. I usually dose in the mornings a few hours before the lights come on

  20. Trying to come up with a fertilizer regiment after some of the plants really slowed growth. Some of the stem plants are browning at the base. Have one led bar come on at about 1pm on low then turn the other on high at 3pm and they run about 9 hours total. Co2 comes on at about 2pm and shuts off at 9pm, an hour before the lights go off. Tested nitrates-low, about 10ppm. Tested Phosphorus, almost 0. Ammonia and Nitrites 0. Wondering how much fertilizer to put in for a 15 gallon with this many plants. I dose with Easy Green, Easy Iron, Seachem Potassium and Phosphorus. Curious if anyone can direct me as to potential dosing quantities. Should I dose more than the 15 gallon amount with all the plants? Thanks for any help!!
