I honestly have never used a towel. What am I missing other than drying your hands?

Well, you realize you are drying both hands?   Sorry just kidding.  I keep 2-3 towels under each aquarium.  I also have a shelf with another couple dozen or so in the garage.  As we replace bath and hands towels in our home the old ones get promoted to FishRoom/Garage towels.

  2. So sorry.   I will start by acknowledging I have not read all the responses.  So if I’m repeating others I apologize.

Stock?  Are you purchasing all or most of your stock from the same place?  Or when this all started did you get live stock from someplace new?  I’m just wondering if the animals you are purchasing and the supplier are the problem.
Food?  Do you use the same foods on all the tanks?  Could some of the foods be contaminated?
Stress?  So much of what kills are fish can be traced back to stress.  Fish can carry a lot of nasty things that their immune system can keep in check until we stress the animals.
    Electrical current leak?
There is also a high possibility that you have more than one problem/issue.  So while looking for that “oh ya” moment we should be looking for 2, 3 or maybe 4.

Do you cross contaminate?  Nets, hands, water hose-pythons, mag float…. Anything?
     Poisoning?  Hand sanitizer?  Air freshener?
    just some thoughts

    Good Luck

Marineland Magnum filter is amazing from

I use it as well.  Love them.   I would use there micron filter.  Sometimes I would first coat it with diatomaceous earth.  There should be some videos on YouTube videos n how to do this.

  4. I don’t think it’s “old tank syndrome” due to the regular aquarium maintenance schedule.  I have a couple aquariums up and running since 2001 - 2002.  Both have under gravel filters as well as HOB filters.
Three years is a long time to keep a mollie, guppy,  swordtail and a lot of fish.  The angle fish should live 10ish years. I wonder how old it was when you purchased it.
But, what you described doesn’t sound like a fish passing away because of age.
I have to wonder if there was a very drastic environmental change (poisoning, water temperature) that may have caused this.
A couple years ago, I noticed at a pet shop they had a tank with sudden deaths.  While talking with owner the pet shop mascot (a cat) used his litter  box and then jumped on top of the tank where he cupped his paw to catch water to get a drink.  Sometimes we need to think outside the (litter ) box.

  5. The tank is relatively new and not yet seasoned.  I’ve had new setups have a algae breakout.  Whatever you do I would do slowly, and then wait a week or so.  So,  first maybe physically remove what you can and turn the lights back/down some and maybe shorten time on by 30 minutes.
    Good Luck

  6. This must be new .  Never heard that one.  Very interesting.  I think so much of this depends on each individual person and tank.  Would you put in a pot and cover with a substrate?  What kind of substrate?  What kind of fish, are the likely to dig it up?  Would you maybe wrap something around that would hold it together, like cheese cloth?  What kind of soil?
I try to look at things as - Risks and Rewards.   Is it worth the troubles and headaches?

  7. Sorry.  I haven’t.  I try to buy from people in my clubs or local fish stores.  My local selection of stores isn’t the greatest so I’m really relying on my friends at local clubs.  You learn after a while you who to text about different fish and who has them.

  8. Dropsy.   That can a hard one to treat.

if she is eating I would try medicated foods as well as treatment.   Try removing all stress as well.  You will most likely need to figure out what the underlying cause is.  Could be a lot of different things or several things.

  9. Depending on the fish and the conditioning I have had pairs 7-8 days and others 14-16 with norm around 10-12 days.

in my experience if the same two  fish are laying eggs days apart most likely you have two female. I have seen it a lot with Angels.  If you get to watch them even hours before and hours after you will notice the female’s ovipositor.  This is so much larger and blunt on the females.
Male’s much smaller and comes to a point.  Once you see the two you will understand.

  10. Thanks, I see the photos. I’m really not sure what’s going on.  He’s eating and that’s good.  And the others in the tank are doing well.  Maybe the stress from the move and he just needs time to settle in.  But, it’s never good when all the fish in a tank are not acting normal.

under rock slabs in the tank at the pet store, all their black moors in the tank did and I’m not exactly sure why

Maybe talk to the pet shop, ask if anyone else is having problems.
What are the water parameters? Temperature? Are you using any activated carbon or anything? Is it possible to add some aquarium salt?

Red Tailed Tinfoil Barbs will forever be my favorites.

I was wondering how big they are?   I had a small group of 5 in my 125 for the longest time.  When I re-homed them they didn’t fit in a 10 inch net.  My wife calls a lot of my fish boring…. But never them.

  12. I could not get link to load. Type of filters?  Could the current be to strong for this young fish to swim in?  So maybe it found a spot where the current isn’t as harsh and just settled in there? Was it swimming at pet shop?  Did you watch them catch it (BTW, always watch them catch the fish)?  Did they injure it while catching it?  And so on…..  Did you place in a QT first?  Was it ok in there if so?
    Good Luck
