  1. I love ghost shrimp but could never get them to live more than a week or two
  2. There is always the OG cold water fish, the paradise Gourami. Might be a bit aggressive for some of those fish but in a 75 with large stocking numbers I don’t think it would stress them to much.
  3. You may consider using it as a breeding tub for life food for your fish. Things like scuds, copepods, rotifers, etc all shouldn’t mind the dark, would eat the stuff in the sump, and could make nice fish snacks every once in a while. Or you could always breed cherry shrimp in there.
  4. I took down this tank to fix some stuff on it I didn’t like and make it more accommodating for my Protopterus Amphibius who was supposed to go in there. Sadly Tambi the LF died last month so I had the tank empty for a while. Just finished up the hard scape and am thinking of plants and stocking now. It’s been a long time since I had a community tank so I may go that route.
  5. That’s actually how I spotted them, their is a bunch coming out the eye stocks, and a cluster coming out the center of the rostrum. I am fairly certain these are parasites and if they are spread out this badly I assume it’s too late for the crawdads, but I figured I’d put it up here.
  6. Looks good, adding some plants in the crevices between wood and rock may help contrast them a bit more.
  7. Yesterday I picked up a pair of procambarus clarkii from my LFS. A local school accidentally ordered 100 extra than they needed and gave them to the store. Not sure we’re they were originally purchased from but they are sold as food livestock. The tank they were put in had nothing but ramshorns and the day after they were added I saw a ton of planaria the next day I was looking at one today and noticed he has small worms coming out of every joint I. The exoskeleton. Any advice of parasite treatment for crayfish.
  8. I’m setting up a 90g community tank soon and have always liked gobies. Any suggestions of favorite gobies to add.
  9. I’ve kept honey gourami with Bolivian rams and similar schooling fish without issue, I doubt it would bother the bamboo shrimp (although I wouldn’t be surprised if the rams did)
  10. I did mine with drylok tinted with acrylic paint, had it up for over a year without issue.
  11. @Colu Regretfully Tambi is now dead. I do believe it was a bacterial infection, and I regret not starting Maracyn sooner. I was over confident in the lungfishes natural regenerative abilities. Tambi had been acting completely normal despite the wound up until 24 hours before he died, when he was acting lethargic and the gills were coiling forward. Some things I’ve noticed which hopefully may help someone else one day. I had noticed he was struggling to get to the surface to breath as well and I did lower the water level so he could reach it without swimming, and saw him being able to stand and gulp air. Also I found a LF group online which I joined (it’s almost all people in Singapore, I guess LF are more popular there) almost everyone keeps there LF in bare bottom tanks with no hard scape except a hide, Tambi’s first round of injuries came from a plastic log with sharp edges and the second came from, I’m assuming, running into a pointed piece on the driftwood. He also spent a lot of time waking on the bottom so any rough substrate may be uncomfortable. I haven’t found anything written about Protopterus Amphibius from the hobby, however there is a little bit out there from scientific journals and documentation from fish farms. The West African LF is a common food fish and there is some discussion about its viability for a farm raised food source. An article from one of these farms I found this morning after Tambi died did state that despite them being able to tolerate poor water conditions and being able to rejuvenate most wounds, they are very susceptible to bacterial infection. In nature they deal with this through their mucus cocoons, which are made from antibacterial mucus.
  12. Well Tambi is not looking good, he has been laying on the bottom a lot, usually orienting the injured side upwards. His external gills are curled forward, naturally I could not find any information about this in P. Amphibius, but it does indicate stress in axolotls. When I first saw the injury I thought it was a Pleco bite because of how round it is, however I’ve noticed it is actually a very deep puncture, I’m guessing one of my kids startled him and he swam into a pointing piece of driftwood.
  13. I have a tank with a single mystery snail that’s been in there for a few months. It’s laid about a dozen clusters in that time. At first I was hoping it was holding sperm and put them in an incubator, but none hatched. There are 5 of them still on the side of the glass that I am assuming at this point are infertile, so me being the lunatic that I am and wondering if they are useful for anything. Does anyone know if there is any nutritional value to egg clusters for feeding?
  14. I’ve always wondered about keeping clams inside my canister filter. Is there a point to keeping a clam inside a place I would only see once every couple of months when doing maintenance, no, but it does seem kind of ideal for them.
  15. There is a reason why MTS means Malaysian trumpet snails and multiple tank syndrome, you needn’t put these new snails in your existing tanks, the answer is to set up a whole new tank
  16. Well then in that case please go by those because they look great.
  17. You sure it is a MTS and not a baby rabbit?
  18. To preface, none of my fish, currently or previously, have dropsy, but I saw someone asking about it in the Coop FB group and it got me curious. Dropsy isn’t the disease, but rather a symptom right? It’s when fluid builds up in the body cavity. Every time I hear people talk about dropsy the general consensus is the fish is as good as dead. So is it the dropsy that kills the fish or is it that if your fish has dropsy the underlying issues have reached terminal levels? Anyone ever have a method with a generally good success rate for treatment, I’ve always wondered if lancing the area and draining the fluid build up would work.
  19. Just a quick update, Tambi did drop that the injured leg, I’ll try and track how long it takes to grow back. That injury on his side still doesn’t look good. The area around it is a little swollen “donuting” around it, not sure if that is how it heals or sign of infection. Right now only treating with heavy water changes and salt. Behavior wise Tambi hasn’t changed, still eating, swimming, etc like normal. When he walks on the bottom it’s a little awkward with that half leg but it doesn’t seem to phase him much.
  20. I had a 30g and honestly I hated it. Is it still in the shed with future plans for use, yes (I want it to be a peapuffer tank one day) but far less enjoyable for me than a simple square. That said mine was a horribly scaped mess. I think having a simple scape that uses the height well without taking up all the width is the way to go.
  21. I am very partial to the Dollar Sunfish, although I would say the longear is arguably the prettiest, more than most SA or African cichlids even. I also love all the darters. I’ve been wanting to do a native tank of things I’ve caught myself for a while.
  22. Most of Tambi’s injuries are completely healed, however he is now sporting a new boo boo slightly more concerning than the others, are large circular chunk missing out of his side. Does it look like a scrape injury? I recently put a bristlenose in with him, could it be a bite (suck?) wound. I’ve never had bristles go after slime coat before but I don’t know.
  23. Who can tell me a little about Archers. My LFS has clouded and small scale in fairly regularly. What’s the difference between the two, any issues with aggression? I’m thinking of trying them with my lungfish in a 90g
