  1. Depends what plants you're putting in. In my experience an airstone is not needed. I'd recommend minimum 2 gallons. Choose a shape that gives you the most room to actually reach in and manipulate things. Depending on your substrate and choice of plants, ferts and water changes can be minimal. My best luck has been anubius and moss, but I've got small amounts of dwarf sag, hydrocotyle tripartita, and ludwigia going currently with no co2 or major ferts. (If you count a bowl as a jar)

  2. At first I thought it was just some loose duckweed floating around after feeding or adding water. But it has turned into more of snow globe effect. I also noticed some at the surface that looks like extra tiny duckweed. It's not in my other tank that has duckweed. It doesn't seem to bother any of the tank occupants. So what is it? And should I worry about it or let it be.

  3. Long time no update. Combination of a busy time of year and not being totally happy with this tank. My hornwort was just collecting hair algae like nobodies business, so I ended up pulling most of it. I added water spangles for the dangling roots. I also have some cholla wood now.

I had to deal with some anubius rot (NOT from aquarium coop), but thankfully seem to have survived without losing everything.

After rearranging some stuff here we are. The white clouds are good. I have some cherry shrimp still that seem good. There was a little bit of pest snail outbreak, so Shelly the assassin moved back in. She didn't wipe everyone out but that's fine, I don't mind some.

I also have Pete, the biggest bladder snail around. I think (s)he made at least one baby as well. Descended from one who snuck into my 2 gallon jar. There is still a colony of his brethren in there.

In the bowl my pink ramshorns finally started making babies, so some of them will be growing up in the big tank.

Also in the bowl I managed to move in 3 white cloud fry a while ago. They are reaching decent size and I'm wondering when to move them back with the parents. I don't want them to be bullied, but also don't want them feeling cramped in the bowl.

@WhitecloudDynastyAny thoughts on when to reintroduce them?

  4. Haven't posted in a while but things are ok. Vampirella the vampire shrimp had a successful molt and is still doing well. Earl the mystery snail is crawling all over and putting on size. The cherry shrimp colony seems to be thriving.

My hornwort was slowly dying, I think from the consistent 75F temp, so I pulled it all out. I added some water spangles for dangling root action. My Amazon sword also put out a runner, which I tucked down to the substrate and is now growing two new plants. Added root tabs for them. 👍

  5. An update on the bowl. Some slight redecorating. Also added an airline with a valve coming from a T-connector from the 29 gallon airline, so I can get just a trickle.

But also, added maybe a dozen cherry shrimp, and managed to get two white cloud minnow fry in. They are quite tiny still, but happy to have them in a safe space. Will update as they (hopefully) grow.

  6. Shelly the assassin moved back to the minnow tank, so say hello to my new ivory mystery snail: pearl!

They are too dang cute and I wanted a slightly more noticeable/active center piece invert for this tank. Vampy shrimp is super cool but mostly hangs out in one place or another waving at me.

Things different with this snail vs my previous/first mysteries:

-Got this from a reputable online store instead of petco

    -constant 75F tank

    -crushed coral in the substrate

    -no dang planaria!

Wish me luck. She/he seemed to perk up pretty quickly.
