I made this for refilling tanks so I don't have to lift a bucket, splash water everywhere, disturb substrate, etc.

It's a Cobalt MJ1200 pump, some push connect fittings, 90° barb, silicone tubing, and a switch on the outlet to control it. I use an extension cord to keep the switch in my hand.

I do basically this same thing, with a simple pond pump from Lowes and a 25' 1/2 inch tubing from the same.  works like a charm between my kitchen sink and the tank.

  2. So,  I got to work today and two of the females had passed overnight.  I removed them from the tank, then looked around AND SAW THE FRY!!  There are 5, maybe 10 fry swimming around the bottom of the tank!  Apparently someone came from the pet store with additional baggage!

Technically it's been the last few days but I got my new office tank home and the stand assembled. I might make a journal when the more interesting stuff starts. 48"Lx24"Wx20"H

I like the catfish, but I think he might already be overgrown for that tank!

  4. A great question.  I do have some buyers lined up, just not at as high of a price, depending on how they look once they arrive.  Those that don't look acceptable will likely become fodder in some predator tanks I have access to (That was a great thread while it lasted!)

  5. This is also posted on my "Endler Sexing" Thread, but I wanted to keep this journal updated as well.

Today begins the great experiment!!!  After buying two male endlers (one black bar and one cobra), I made the decision to do some genetics experimentation.  Today, I took advantage of a buy three get one sale at a LFS and got 4 assorted female guppies.  It looks like one is a halfblack, maybe one cobra, maybe a tequila sunrise, and one other yellow that I'm not entirely sure of.  Excited to see what the grand design turns out.

  7. I bought two endlers today, which I thought were male and female due to the difference in the tail.  However, now that I'm looking a bit more closely, I'm wondering if they are simply different strains, and I got both males.  It would certainly make breeding more difficult if that were the case!  Can someone shed light on if I made that mistake?  Sorry, the pics aren't great. KIMG1368.jpg.683eac257bfbb46684fb825a02d73ae2.jpg

  8. On my last Wooded Wednesday post, I noted little white dots that had appeared on the driftwood in my office tank.  Since then, I have noticed them on the sponge filter, substrate, lava rock, and in the corner of the tank.  I'm thinking they could be droppings or eggs from the nerite snails, but I'm not sure.  Does anyone have an idea of what these little pearls might be?  I just want to make sure they aren't something I should be worried about.  My betta and neos seem to not be affected by them, or care in the least about them.

Side note:  I doubt they are eggs from the nerite, because I remember reading they don't reproduce in fresh water, but if that's wrong I'd love to know!

  9. I don't have a say in this, as the only thing that I have been able to breed as of yet are swordtails that my angels eat in about 10 minutes or less.  I did want to say, however, that this is why I LOVE the Co-op.  All the posts I've seen have been respectful and peaceful, even when people may not agree, and even though many begin the post talking about how this is a touchy subject!  As my Co-op plants continue to fill in the entire bottom of my tank, I hope sooner or later one or two fry may reach adulthood before the angels have snack time.

  10. I had something like that in my big tank, which I was under the impression was black hair algae.  It grew on my Windelov Java Fern, which is positioned basically under my filter output.  At the onset, I trimmed the fern back, cutting off the affected leaves, and the algae, which it seems only grows in the filter current, began growing on other leaves.  At one point, I used a toothbrush to get some of it off, and I have noticed that as the new leaves are growing at the base of the plant, they do not seem to be affected by the growth.  Sorry if this isn't much help, but I know I got the toothbrush idea from @KGTropicals on YouTube
