Should I continue feeding my plants with Easy Green while treating my tank with Ick -X? My tank is heavily planted. I am making daily partial water changes with each Ick-X treatment. I will continue to feed my fish lightly...I think they need strength to fight the Ick...Do you agree? thanks

I use Prime with every partial water change. Water tests come out normal. My tank is heavily planted, I can't remove the fish and treat with salt, I have to treat the whole tank with care not to harm the plants. Should I continue with Ick X, or is there another common med that is best to use? .

Please help me cure this fuzzy, cottony growth which has stricken my kerri and black tetras( which I thought were very hardy!) I spotted a random white dot on one fish What is this disease/parasite called? In the same tank are red/black phantom tetras and glowlight tetras...which seem to be unaffected, so far. The 55 gallon tank has typical fairly neutral, hard water with plants. Temp is 75-77. I am currently dosing Ick-X daily. Is this the best treatment for this condition? What can I do to knock out this odd disease quickly? thanks in advance

AllFishNoBrakes, Yes...the 'severely-hump-backed' fish pictured does swim vertically! I though he was dying and removed him from my display tank and placed him in my quarantine tank. To my surprise, he is eating well, chasing around some black phantom tetras and having a good time! He just needed some TLC because of his condition and age. Thank you Lindsey and Dallas for the kind words...I remember the moment I purchased my glow lights in the 90's...I was complaining to a LFS owner about my attempt to keep cardinal tetras and he suggested glow lights. And they were the cheapest priced fish in his shop! I saw some albino glow lights the other day that looked nice....I may have to purchase another young school of glow lights and start again!

I believe the 'hump-back ' spines come with old age because all my glow lights were normal when young. My remaining 3 all have a degree of a hump back.

It seems like I may have had these glow light tetras close to 10 years...What started as a school of 15 has dwindled to 3 remaining! They are still active, social and eating well. Talk about a hardy, resilient tetra! One tetra has developed a severe bent spine, just like some old men do! anyone else have a similar experience with certain fish which live quite long?

My aquarium is very maturely cycled, having been set up for over 15 years. I know that ammonia is never a problem.the tank is under-stocked. Even when fish die( I have amano shrimp who must consume them), I never have ammonia spikes, or rarely see any dead fish. I never expected to have to feed the plants so often, but now I realize that as the plants grow larger, the tank requires more food to support the mass. Java Fern loves Easy Green in my water, it grows to the surface of my 55...I have to trim and discard often. I cannot grow bunch plants.( they slowly decline) Perhaps my nitrates are too low and the Java Fern/anubias are sucking up all the nutrients. I still manage to create interesting leaf contrasts/texture due to the many varieties of JF& A. With increased dosing, I will try to grow bunch plants again!

Thanks...I will try increasing my dosage...my plants have increased in volume so they probably require more nutrients.( they must be quite hungry!) I use to have green spot algae all over my glass and anubia plants , then one day, all the algae disappeared magically! When I test my water, the nitrate level is always very low, maybe that is a clue why the algae disappeared.Perhaps I should increase my fish population too, it is currently understocked with mostly tetras. Do my AC test strip colors give any other clues for advice?

Could you please suggest a dosing schedule? I feel like I'm dosing too much already for Anubis and Java Fern!

I have a 55 gallon tank with Anubias and Java Ferns. I dose with Easy Green, 5 squirts, 3 times and week( Monday, Wednesday and Friday) I do a partial water change every weekend to introduce new minerals to the plants, my water PH appears to be around 7ish according to the AC strips. Some leaves are pale and develop spots...Should I increase my dosing schedule? I thought that anubia and Java fern were 'low feeders'. Thanks

Check out George Farmer's method using a submersible pump. I just went to Lowes and purchased a pond pump, plastic tubing and pvc piping...and no more carrying buckets! ( picture below) I can drain and fill my tank using the pump. Water changes are easy, quick and fun now!

I just watched Corey's Live Stream from 4 days ago. He recommended using only 1 , 100 watt heater for a 75 gallon tank. His reasons were to save money, fish are quite tolerate of uneven temperatures...and if the heater malfunctions, 100 watts will take longer to overheat/ underheat... My tank is covered with 2 hang on back filters and 1 powerhead which must help to generate some heat...I heat my room at 72 F or more depending on my comfort. I'm going to start with 1 heater in my 55 gallon and see how it goes.

Will one 100 Watt Aquarium COOP heater really be strong enough for my 55 gallon tank? Some customer reviews have stated that one will successfully heat up to a 75 gallon tank...I have an old 250 Watt tube heater that I would like to replace....Perhaps the AC 100 Watt will be more efficient and handle my tank with ease?

I've been keeping 12 black neon tetras in a quarantine tank for over a month. They have developed a white fuzz that will not go away. I've treated with salt, Ich-X and General Cure with no improvement! The fish are resilient and haven't died, they just don't get better! What should I do, please?

Not new rainbow fish...I've had them since October and I quarantined them for 2 weeks before placing into my display tank. All the other fish seem just fine..although I''ve noticed that all my remaining dwarf rainbows have big stomachs! They are so greedy and compete with eating all the food to the point that I worry that my cardinals don't get enough food! Do you think they could overeat and get bloated which eventually kills them?

Thanks for your comments...I'm starting to believe that my dwarf rainbows just don't like my water... my water is hard, I thought rainbows like hard water. I do weekly water changes and check my nitrates. Today, I had to remove another 'sluggish, dull-looking female rainbow who was having difficulty swimming. I placed her in my quarantine tank and she is scurrying along the bottom, with wobbly movements and will probably die shortly! Each doomed fish always looses its iridescent color before they die! Is there such a thing as a 'rainbow fish disease'? So odd because in my main tank, I have thriving cardinal/ phantom tetras, ottocinclus and other 'sensitive' fish who supposedly don't care for hard water...and my ph is near neutral! The pic below is my latest victim who will probably expire by tomorrow! She has trouble swimming( the water current will push her along) and wobbles along the gravel.Each sick fish seems to loose it's strength, swimming weakly and is very easy to catch because they can't flee quickly!

I've heard/read that it is not good to feed brine frozen brine shrimp to Rainbows. Is this true? Coincidently, I've fed brine shrimp to my dwarf neon rainbows twice and the next day, one of them has difficulty swimming and passed away shortly. I've lost 2 rainbows so far. I feed brine shrimp to my community tank about once a week, alternating with a variety of dry/frozen foods. Was this just a strange coincidence or is there a problem with brine shrimp and rainbows? Rainbows are real pigs and seem to just gulp down food. Maybe the shrimp get entangled in their throats/gills? Thanks, fishy folks!

Although my 55 gallon tank seems fine, my Taiwan Lily and bunch plants never grow strongly...in fact, they seem to decline after a few weeks! I always heard that Taiwan lilies are easy to grow, even in low light. Anubias, Java fern, Crinum, Aponogeton and Bolbitus are growing nicely. I dose 5 pumps of Easy Green, twice a week. I do 2 partial water changes weekly( gravel vac once a week). My light is the 'Edge' which claims to be well suited for plant growth. The light is set for 6hrs daily. My water parameters seem to be ok according to the strip test. Cardinals tetras, dwarf neon rainbows, red phantoms, ottos and panda garas are thriving! I think my tank is attractive, I just wish that I could get my rare Taiwan lily and bunch plants to become vigorous! Pennywort,ludwigia and rotala are 'spindly'! I don't want to use CO2. Should I increase to 3 doses a week of Easy Green? Should I lengthen my light schedule? ( I already have green spot algae on anubia leaves and glass.) Thanks for your advice in advance!

'it’s Low maintenance not no maintenance ' Nooby, Perhaps you could suggest a maintenance routine to execute since my Easy Green twice a week isn't enough.

I am dosing with Easy Green twice a week and feeding fish well. I"m surprised that this anubias plant would need more nutrients! Should I dose more often than twice weekly?

Just a thought...I have 4 Panda garas and 1 Otto. Could these fish be eating this particular Anubias plant or is it a nutrient problem?

A question for all the plant people out there, please...Why is one of my anubias plants producing new translucent leaves? The other Anubias plants seem to be ok. I do a water change once a week and partially drain water midweek. I use Easy Green twice a week after water changes..5 squirts for my 55 gallon. What do you feel is the problem? Thanks! I

Thank you, Seized.I thought this is Brazilian pennywort: My plant doesn't have the round leaves and it doesn't have that pleasant scent...is it a different variety of pennywort?

These two plants ,surprisingly, have been growing nicely in my hard water...so far! What are their names? The 2nd plant has feathery, tiny leaves and moves gracefully in the current. My 1st time growing them. I am really enjoying these plants. Thanks

Thank you,Chef ...I feed twice daily because my 'cherished' cardinal tetras have sunken -in bellies if I don't! The other inhabitants are pigs(ember tetras /cherry barbs are very greedy eaters) and often eat all the food before the somewhat timid cardinals get to it. Perhaps my cardinals are tougher than I realize...cutting down feedings will lesson the algae food source too. I just don't want to risk my cardinals' vigor. And I am afraid that the barbs will start eating my softer bunch plants like pennywort! Meanwhile,i'm planning to add ottos to handle that ugly algae on the anubias leaves. Is 6 hours of light too little for plant growth? My timer is set 5pm-11pm so I can view my fish!
