  1. So I know emersed plants a grown partially underwater with most of their growth i.e. leaves grown above water and submersed are plants grown completely underwater. Now for my question is it better to buy emersed grown plants or submersed or is there even a difference?
  2. Thanks for the imput. Yes I did discover after the fact that the minnows prefer cooler temps than a betta oops. I do keep the tank on the cooler side than the betta might prefer by four degrees to help keep the minnows more comfortable. I do try to keep a constant eye on the inhabitants in case of illness because they are both outside their comfort zones in temp a little but so far they seem happy with an unending hunger for food.
  3. I have not considered using panda garras but I have now. Does anyone have any experience with panda garras and how many I could keep?
  4. That depends on how long a little while is. If you mean a couple days then I would say no but if you mean a couple hours then its probably fine if you have an airstone they could go longer.
  5. I have peppered corydora babies and gold white cloud mountian minnow babies as well. Congrats on your babies!
  6. Hi, again I was hoping for some help concerning this product from all the experienced aquarium plant people on this forum. So I have a planted aquarium that is starting to become more densely planted with hopefully some more plants to be added soon. Recently as I have added more plants I have noticed that there is less growth happening and I was wondering if that is because their is less CO2 to go around (I blame the Water Lettuce). Anyways long story short I was wonder if this would be a helpful product to introduce more CO2 with out having to install fancy equipment which I do not have the funds for. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Your tank looks amazing and I am sure all your inhabitants are loving all the space. I know having a betta being introduced to a community aquarium can be stressful like will they go on a murder spree or not but it is nice when they turn out to be peaceful. I also have a betta in a community setup and he has not killed anyone yet. I will be excited to see your corys I love corys they are so goofy and derpy looking.
  8. Thanks everyone for all your advice I have managed to breed the white clouds with twenty or more free swimming fry. They are currently in a different tank from their parents can't wait to see them grow!
  9. Here are some pics of the setup. This time I managed to catch my camera shy pleco and one of my male amano shrimp.
  10. What kind of fish do you have that might chew holes in a plant?
  11. Looks great! I love the Anubias what's the other plant
  12. Light: Hygger Light, model HG-978 LED Light its 22 watts Kh: 6 Gh; 8 I gave a list of plants earlier in this conversation though I forgot to mention that I do grow water sprite and cryptocoryne wendtii As for my nitrates the solution I was using has now gone bad so I am working on ordering a replacement.
  13. how many hillstreams would you recomend
  14. Yes, I see your point. But I have heard otos more exclusively feed on algae and biofilm alone as opposed to hillstream loaches who will eat things other than just algae.
  15. Tank Size: 29 gallons Sand substrate Low equipment just HOB filter, and heater I do not run CO2 I do use a liquid fertilizer and have a plant substrate underneath the sand. I will try to post photos later tonight or tomorrow
  16. As far as adding more plant mass what would you advise are the best plants for that and or the fastest growing. I do have water lettuce currently as a floater plant Java fern, dwarf sagittaria subulata, Hygrophila Corymbosa compacta, and a moss of some sort
  17. I currently have a 29 gallon tank stocked with 10 white clouds, 5 peppered corydoras, 3 amano shrimp, and a king of the tank a calm sedate plakat betta. I also have a clown pleco who I am looking to rehome via my local fish store. I was hoping to add another kind of algae grazer but was unsure which is better hillstream loaches or otos? I have heard that otos can starve easily if there is not enough algae so I lean more towards the loaches but I am unsure.
  18. Thanks for all the helpful advice it helps make sense of my algae problems. And weather I need an algae eating crew.
  19. I'm undecided between Otos of Hillstream Loaches? Does anyone have experience with them as far as who is the better algae eater?
  20. Hi, I am a relatively new fish keeper I have been keeping fish for about 2 years at this point except they were not back to back years. I had a first fish tank at age 10 it was a 10 gallon tank with glowlight tetras a common clown pleco and ghost shrimp. Needless to say it was kinda a disaster none of my fish survived super long and my poor parents and I where clueless as to the reason why (Improper Cycling). A year later the seal broke on the tank and that was that. Jumping back into fish keeping quite a few years later I now have a 29 gallon tank planted with 10 Golden White Cloud Mountain Minnows, 6 peppered corydoras, 3 amano shrimp, 1 clown pleco. I hope my skills have improved slightly and the corydoras have bred several times with 8 babies surviving so I suspect the fish are happy. I also hope to continuing growing my understanding of fish keeping by being in this forum.
  21. I personally use Growth Juice from Dustin's fishtanks but I have used Seachem Flourish and Aquarium Co-op's Easy Green. All of the fertilizers work in my opinion but I would probably recommend either Aquarium Co-op's stuff or Dustin's.
  22. I know that algae is formed by a number of reasons which I have attempted to correct an imbalance of nutrients too much light which has significantly helped decrease the amount of algae that grows in my tank but I still have some pop up especially on the aquarium plants. So I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with algae eaters and which ones in you opinion is the best? I do already have some Amano Shrimp which do help but not quite enough.
  23. Hi, I was wondering weather anyone could offer some help with my white cloud mountain minnow breeding project. I have a ratio of 7M/3F and was wondering what is the best way to go about breeding them? How soon does it take the eggs to Hatch and can the newborns eat microworms right away?
