  1. I just cut off all the dead leafs, going to do a water change and then put in root tabs. Hopefully overtime i start to see growth
  2. I am using the all in one fertilizer, I haven't put root tabs in a couple months. How often should I put root tabs in, do I have to be concerned about any spikes in parameters doing it to often?
  3. I am trying to figure out what is causing this, levels are good. Some of the leaves on my Amazon swords are a nice green, others brown, holes, stringy and ghostly. They have been thriving since March of this year, been going backwards the last month. Weekly water changes. Only change was added a piece of driftwood 3-5" for my clown plecos a few months ago and cholla wood thin long piece for my shrimp. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  4. Can you use the Aquarium Co-Op Coarse Sponge Pad to Replace Fluval Pre Filter Pads? I have the Fluval 207 and am wondering if I can buy the one large black Coarse Sponge Pad from Aquarium Co-Op and cut it to the size I need to replace the 2 large blue and 2 large white prefilters in my Fluval 207 canister. I am already using the coarse pad in my bottom tray of my canister. Thank you for any recommendations.
  5. My PH and KH hardness from the tap is low. I have been using seachem alkaline buffer which has been working to raise it. However what is the best way to keep a balanced pH so the fish stay happy. Do I use acid and alkaline buffer in conjunction to achieve a constant pH level and do I need to do anything after each water change?
  6. Hi, I just got a small piece of driftwood for my clown plecos. Do I need to boil the driftwood to steralize it? If so, how long? Anything else that should be done for preparation before placing in the aquarium? Also will I have to worry about a PH drop from the driftwood, it is small maybe 3" by 5". Thanks, Eric
  7. I have a few cherry shrimp and blue shrimp. I am looking for another hiding spot for them besides my plants. Is cholla Wood a good hiding spot for them? If so do you need to prep it anyway before putting in tank, wash? Boil? Do I have to worry about it lowering my ph? I have a lot of mickey platys, Mollys and a couple Siamese algae eaters, do I have to be concerned with their health if I put the Cholla Wood in the tank? As always I appreciate any suggestions
  8. I have this black snail in my tank. I had 4 in there a few weeks ago and removed them. I have not gotten anymore plants which is where I guess the others came from. Should I remove it or is it safe to keep in the tank. I read they can multiply real fast and take over your tank.
  9. Makes sense, I noticed after a week using the crushed coral that the pH went up , but no difference in KH. I read that crushed coral will help raise pH levels but slow levels if any in KH and GH... if that is true. I removed the media bag today. I will try the Alkalinity buffer that you recommend to raise the KH. Can using limestone rock have the same effect? Or would the Alkaline Buffer give me better control of raising it to the parameters I require?
  10. So I have had the Crushed Coral Media bag above the bio rings for about a week now. My PH is now around 7.2 to 7.4, haven't seen a difference in KH yet, will check again tomorrow. How long should I keep the media bag in the filter? I do not want the PH to get to high and stress out the fish or plants.
  11. I have looked at micro swords, but nor sure if I want to go that route. Was looking at the Cryptocoryne Lucens on aqaurium co-op, would these work out nice as a foreground plant and also a potential hiding area for fry? I have some baby fry, they have some hiding areas in the background plants, but wanted to give them more when they are swimming in the front. Watched one of my molly dalmations eat a fry yesterday 😪. Appreciate any recommendations as always.
  12. Since I have had my tank I have only used Fritz Zyme 7 to help with the beneficial bacteria. I have noticed that my chlorine level for a while has been a little over 0 on the test strip. Fish are not stressed out, had all of them for about 5 weeks now. Can I use Fritz Zyme 7 with Fritz Complete to help remove chlorine when doing water changes? Will the fish getting stressed from adding the conditioner since they have not been exposed to it? Appreciate any help and suggestions.
