  1. Thanks to you all! Such great information!!! I’m thinking I’ll get a camping stove as suggested. Barb
  2. Hi all, I had a 4 day power outage recently here in Michigan. I had battery operated air pumps that worked great. And I covered my aquarium to try and retain heat. But it got too cold for too long, and I lost half my fish. I know that you can buy large battery back ups now, and was wondering if anyone had experience using one to power aquarium heaters? Does anyone have any experience with brands that might make someone either want to get that brand, or want to avoid it for that purpose? thanks so much!
  3. I don’t actually have a suggestion about searches, but I do have a suggestion about improving the website in the forums. Is there anyway you could add a button so that I can look at the post that I made and the replies that the other people have made? I saw that I had messages, but when I thought I was clicking on one, I actually opened up a persons profile. Then, when I went back to home, I couldn’t figure out how to get back to the answers to my question. If you already have this functionality, is there a way you could make it a little more obvious for those of us who can’t seem to find things? Thanks so much! 😋
  4. Hi all! For the last three years I’ve had 40 gallon long with tons of plants and 10 fish. Because I am way over planted and way under stocked, I haven’t had to do water changes for the last 2 1/2 years. The fish are doing great, my water parameters are great, but I have a boatload of black beard algae in the tank. I decided it was time for a complete redo. Yesterday I moved my fish to a 20 gallon tank while I clean out the 40 gallon. I was so excited, because I have a brand new baby cory cat!! So adorable and tiny!!! so, my quandary is that I picked the most terrible time of the year to do this. I live in Michigan, and it’s cold and snowy outside! 😋 I have the 40 gallon tank, drained, and all of the substrate removed. And my plants are in buckets right now. What I’m wondering is if I can clean the 40 gallon with a little bit of bleach to kill off any remaining black beard algae? The tank is too big for me to lift it off the stand to get it into another place and rinse it out. I’m wondering if after I clean it, I could use a little Prime to inactivate the bit of bleach? Or if maybe the bleach would gas off after a day or two? I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
  5. Hi all! This is Barb from Michigan. I’m new to the forum but have been following the AC YouTube channel and ordering from Cory’s store for years. I’ve been downsizing and have a 40 gallon and 20 gallon now. I’m understocking and over planting, and that’s been working great for me. Getting too old to lug 5 gallon buckets of water and haven’t done the work needed to automate water changes. So life is good with these 2 remaining tanks. Happy fishkeeping everyone! 🐟
