  1. I found a vendor on Etsy that will print on canvas for a reasonable price. They send proof prior to fulfilling the order, so I'll be able to see if it's worth printing. I'm surprised at how hard it was to find hobbyists who have done this. I checked on various forums, including photography subreddits, and couldn't find a single person who could share their experience in having a picture of their aquarium enlarged and printed. I must be crazy lol. If this works out, I'll post a pic here.
  2. The resolution is 1334 x 750 pixels. It's an SE, a pretty old one. This is the only pic I have of this scape. I'm trying to see how it will look at approximately 12 x 30.
  3. I'm trying to get a photo of one of my tanks framed to the same dimensions as the front panel of a 20 long. I'm wondering if a pic taken with an iphone would retain good quality once it's enlarged. I'm also hoping someone could share an image if they've done this. Not sure if this is allowed, but if there are any sites anyone could recommend, I'd be grateful.
  4. Here are some older pics of the tank. This was my second time putting a scape together. I was very happy with the original look, which only lasted a few months. I used Eco Complete on top of media bags initially, but lost countless stem plants. I had a very hard time with planting in this substrate, and it ultimately forced me to start over. The substrate wasn't deep enough, and removing the media bags was a hassle and stressful to the fish. Here are some older pics of the tank. This was my second time putting a scape together. 5. Thank you! I'll post more pics soon🙂
  6. That's concerning. These are the Easy Root Tabs. I usually use the Flourish tabs, but I wanted to see if these made a difference. I'll have to test for ammonia and prepare for water changes. Thank you.
  7. I'm hoping to track the progress of my newest tank, a 20 long with a female Betta, about a dozen Golden Minnows, 3 Venezuelan Corys, 3 Nerites, and a couple Ottos. I had purchased 8 Emerald Rasboras last month, but they soon disappeared after I witnessed the biggest Minnow chasing them. I'm not sure if any are still alive. I try to scape each tank (6 total) differently, and this particular scape is my favorite because I'm creating a Crypt and Red Tiger Lotus carpet. I was inspired by a Canadian Youtuber (Aguabonita). I actually thought it was Dean from ACO for months because some videos are titled 'Dean's fishroom updates', and because he didn't appear on camera. My new favorite plant is a Crypt Wendtii Brown Indonesian. It's a gorgeous plant once it adapts. I'll share pics of what it looks like fully grown in my other tanks. I used Seiryu stone and Manzanita wood for the hardscape, and black diamond blasting sand (50 lbs). I usually prefer pool filter sand, but I wanted a darker substrate. I purchased the Indonesian Browns from my favorite LFS, Aquascaping Supply in Orlando. The other plants (Java Ferns, purple waffle, Alternanthera Reineckii, Anubias, Bucephalandra) were picked up at a local fish farm or ordered online. I'm happy with the progress so far, aside from losing the Rasboras. The pic I'm posting of the tank is about a month old. I'll post another pic once the new Crypts grow a bit. The pics of the Crypts I've added are from different tanks. Overall, it's been fun setting this up. I wish I had tracked the progress of my other tanks this way. Looking forward to updating, as well as seeing others post their updates.
  8. I recently added root tabs to a few tanks, and I guess I didn't bury them deep enough because in two of the tanks, my Corys dug them up. I didn't notice until an hour later, so when I first saw the blobs I thought some fish had died in both tanks. Do I need to remove them immediately? Can anything happen to the fish or plants from the root tabs' casing melting away in open water?
  9. Shame. I should have looked into this before purchasing. Maybe some day I'll look into a species only setup. They're truly beautiful fish.
  10. About a month ago, I added 8 Dwarf Emerald Rasboras to a 20 long (pic attached) that already had a female Betta, 3 Venezuelan Corydoras, and 10 Golden Minnows. The Betta never bothers anyone. It's a pretty heavily planted tank. Half is covered in wood, stone, and stem plants. The other half has various crypts. Last week, I noticed that the Rasboras hardly come out. As a matter of fact, I never see more than two out at any given time. When I do see them, they get chased off by the adult Minnows. Is this just a bad fit? I've had these same Minnows in a tank with CPDs, and they never chased. I don't even know how to confirm all 8 Rasboras are still alive.
  11. You really never know what you don't know😅 This makes me wonder if there's anything else I should be checking for. Losses are pretty rare nowadays, but there was a period about two years ago when I was losing fish on a regular basis. I guess if the fish seem healthy, and the tanks are 'seasoned", it should be ok. Thanks, everyone.
  12. For the first time ever, I decided to test the PH in our tap water, and it was 8.4. I used the API liquid test (regular and high range). In our tanks, the PH sits between 7.0-7.4. I'm wondering, is there a threshold where the PH in tap water is too high before doing a water change? I don't know how the process works, but somehow a high tap water PH hasn't negatively impacted our fish (that I know of). Is high tap water PH ever a problem?
  13. I went back and watched the video again. AJ stated that the tank was inspired by an ADA tank that was done a couple years ago named 'Green Heaven'. I looked up the ADA video and it turns out that they used Hydrocotyle Leucocephala and Hydrocotyle Tripartita. Not sure if Zoobox did as well, but both tanks look amazing😍
  14. Will there be an issue if the leaves from this houseplant dip into the water?
  15. Can anyone help me identify this beautiful plant? This was from an AJ Aquascaping video he shot at Zoobox in Germany. I'm wondering if this could be Cardamine Lyrata.
  16. I've followed accounts on social media belonging to dogs and cats (like lil Bub, Grumpy cat, etc) before, but Murphy was the first fish I didn't own that I cared about. I would check in to the feed every few weeks out of curiousity, and look forward to seeing video updates. Sorry for your loss Cory, and the rest of the ACO staff who got to see and interact with him. He will be missed. I never had the privilege of seeing him in person, but I am grateful for all the footage that is available.
  17. I know Cory has discussed the ongoing issue with Anubias rot, but I'm wondering if certain types of Anubias are more prone to rot than others. For my tanks, rotting is much more prevalent in Barteri than in Nana petite, for example. It's a large sample size of Barteri versus a small sample (4 pieces) of nana petite. Plants came from the same vendor. I've had the nana in a 5 gallon shallow tank for about 3 months. The Barteri (round or diamond) never seem to last more than 2-3 months. I've also lost Anubias, congensis, bonsai wavy, and butterfly.
  18. I use the API liquid test kit. I don't know what to think anymore. Some people swear by the ACO strips, others go by API. I just do a water change if I see dark orange to red results. I stopped using the strips.
  19. We lost two mystery snails in this tank a couple weeks ago, but I removed them the same day. We may have lost Nerites or some fish and not noticed. I'll have to check in hard to reach areas.
  20. I've read conflicting information on this, so I'm wondering, how do you gauge whether nitrates in a tank are too high? I'll use one of my tanks as an example. It's a 20 long heavily planted tank with White clouds, Guppies, false Juliis, a female betta, nerites, and cherry shrimp. If I'm using a master test kit, what's the threshold before I need to do a water change? I try not to over feed, but I've noticed lately that I'm getting higher readings. At last water change, Nitrates were 80+. The frequency was typically 7-10 days between water changes, but I've had to do them weekly for about a month now. I feed 6 days a week; frozen baby brine, pellets, freeze dried ACO food, and occasionally some crushed Krill flakes.
  21. Oh wow, good to know. That's unfortunate. Not worth the risk and likely disappointment it seems. Thank you
  22. I'm wondering if anyone has purchased crypts from AZGardens. I can't find much information on them. I've got my sights set on a few different crypts that they sell, and would like to make sure they're reputable.
