  1. @brandonnaturally Thank you so much for the reply. I'm glad you filled me in, I was ready to head to your store this weekend. It's not an epic drive, but you are over an hour away from me, way down in the far south reaches of King County. 🙂 I'll keep an eye out!
  2. Can I ask if there are any ricefish in stock? If not, any idea when you'll have some? Preferably platinums.
  3. Houston, we have lift-off. 🤪 Bonus - you can see the baby ramshorn that landed in this tank with some frogbit, climbing the mountain.
  4. I've heard this mentioned quite a bit, I'm curious to see how that goes for me. I think the ricefish I plan on getting are going to love it though.
  5. Welcome! It looks like you're off to a great start.
  6. Welcome to the forum. It cute, I'm sure you're 3 year old must enjoy watching it. 😉
  7. Can anyone tell me if this is what happens to Hydrocotyle Tripartita Japan when it's left floating? I'm not sure if it's something else that was perhaps living on the sponge filter that I used in my 14g & which came from a (used tank) I bought from a fish shop that closed. But also, I planted a couple pots of Hydrodcotyle in there when I set it up almost 4 weeks ago. I know some of it floated to the top and I left it to see what it would do. Some of the stems grew roots & I was able to replant and then I have this. I can't figure out what else it would be? A form of algea?
  8. Looking good! I need to get one for the mini-pond I want to set up this spring too.
  9. I wish you did too, I'd love to see it! Wow, it might be too big for my 14g cube with leaves that big. I love how well it's turned out for you!
  10. Thank you Nabokovfan87, that's reassuring. I've been leaving it for now since I knew it would be appreciated by the plants. Good to know, Lennie, I'll keep an eye out for it!
  11. This tank continues to test at zero for ammonia & nitrite, and anywhere from 40-80 for Nitrate. The last time ammonia tested at anything other than zeros was on 3/2. I ended up with 1 Blue Ramshorn snail in there, by accident when I added some more frogbit and there are the usual pond snails/bladder snails that seem to hitch a ride on everything, but everyone is doing well. Some of the plants are doing great, especially the Crypts, Java Ferns & Dwarf Lily. The hydrocotyle tripartita Japan has just about disappeared 😞 but there's still a stem or two. I did start some pothos in the tank 1 of 3 stems is doing great, the other 2 didn't make it. I do have a question at this point - it's looking like fish will be a go in early April, as I had hoped. Do I need to do a water change prior to getting the fish & bring that Nitrate level down? I feel like I've seen a lot of conflicting views on this topic.
  12. New pic, I can't believe how much growth I see on this plant every day!
  13. I'll be planning a visit to the store in early April, hoping for some gorgeous ricefish, assuming the tank keeps testing well, that is.
  14. I'm so glad you asked about what to do with them. I have one Java fern leaf that was given to me when I set up my 2 gallon water garden and it has tiny baby plants all around the tip of the leaf and I've been wondering what to do with them and when.
  15. I have some of this in the 14g I set up 3 weeks ago, but it has melted to almost nothing. Any tips on getting this plant to thrive? I don't have, nor plan to have CO2. I did see a tip, maybe it was one of Cory's videos, about just letting it float, but I didn't see it until after I'd gone ahead and planted it. All I have now are whisps. Aside from that, I haven't had much luck with carpeting. although this plant (which I've forgotten the name of) has at least been holding it's own & still looks healthy - it was planted in December.
  16. OMG - amazing & beautiful! Here's an updated picture of mine, just taken this afternoon.
  17. Sounds like justification for another tank to me. 😄
  18. I LOVE this idea! I'll daydream with you. My main goal is to have ricefish & I'm hoping they'll like the lily pads these are supposed to send up. Now I want more of them! 😉
  19. I ordered a Dwarf Lily Bulb from Aquarium Co-Op last week and their crack team had it to me by Friday. I planted it that night. Take a look at this growth already! Day 4 Day 6 (today) I'm looking forward to watching its progress.
  20. I'm sorry you experienced that, don't let them ruin your enjoyment, as others said, as long as you enjoy them, that's what matters. I recently left a Facebook Beginners group because they were so toxic to people over there & I didn't want to be a part of that environment when I know everyone here is so helpful and supportive. Here (in order) are my 1 gallon water garden, current inhabitants are snails - sadly, I discovered yesterday this beautiful Blue Ramshorn died 😞. My 2 gallon water garden, where I just discovered this morning my other Blue Ramshorn had at least 2 babies - one is double the size of the other, so who knows what else I will find? This jar does have a couple baby shrimp in it as well. And last, but not least, my 14 gallon cube which currently only has snails that hitched a ride on some plants my Godson gave me. I set it up February 21st and I'm still cycling it. It all started with just wanting some tiny water gardens for my office at work, I wanted a peaceful space and then I fell in love with Japanese Ricefish and mini-ponds. My plan is to stock the 14 with ricefish, first & foremost, plus CPD's and maybe pigmy corys or?
  21. Then you came to the right place. I just started out with some mini water gardens (with snails in them) last September and joined the forum only recently. I'm cycling a 14 gallon cube aquarium now and hoping to finally get some fish in April. I've found this group to be very kind, supportive & helpful.
