  1. It's always sad seeing the bettas in cups, but there's something uniquely devastating seeing the King bettas in the cups. And therefore even more sad thinking of the small tanks they might be subjected to. 😔
  2. This really hurts my faith in humanity.
  3. Hi! Just throwing in my quick two cents on the subject: I would definitely second not adding any more females. I hadn't heard a lot about female to female aggression on this species but firsthand I think the females are just as aggressive as the males, especially towards one another, no matter the tank size or how many territories/lines of sight breaks you have. Then again my females could just be extra mean.🤷‍♀️
  4. Hi! It's always great to meet another betta enthusiast!! What bettas do you have currently? Do you keep them or do you also breed them?
  5. Exciting plans? Yes. Organized.... the piles of sponges from filters and random little cups and containers scattered around my 'soon-to-be-fish-room' say otherwise. I like to say I have mastered the art of organized chaos. Which is really just a fancy way of saying I've more just embraced the chaos. Thank you! I'm very much an undecided major still (too many choices) but I have a few friends who are English majors so I've done some writing for fun from time to time with them! Well golly, if you insist. 😋 He's a tubby boi. Oh and of course his very important birthday pic.
  6. Well-Don tanks! I love his content! You best bet I'll be going down the youtube rabbit hole again now for the air system. I'm pretty sure I have my plan now but there is no such thing as too much research!
  7. What you described in the first paragraph is exactly what I'm hoping to do! It's reassuring to know that it's worked well for someone else! As for the tubing to the ceiling I was hoping to use brackets with long deck screws and then just not quite screw them in all the way tight in hopes of keeping some wiggle room for it. I'm curious about your suggestion though. Would I have to worry about too much movement? Is there a thing as too much movement? I guess by having it hanging it would probably just absorb most of the vibration. Goodness knows I love me some zip ties so you've given me something to think about! @gardenman Thank you! This video is absolutely perfect! I'm planning on having my air valves come out from the bottom but I suppose one can't ever be too careful!
  8. I realized today I just jumped onto this forum and started asking questions without ever even taking a stop in here to the introductions thread! I'm Dani, a student and aspiring breeder with so many tanks I've quite literally lost count. I've been watching/listening to Aquarium Co-op's content for quite a while now but just now even realized they had a forum! I'm in the middle of a true fish room build at the moment and super excited to finally really crack my knuckles and get down to some honest to goodness breeding projects. My black rams are my precious babies, I am absolutely whipped by my figure eight puffer and his sweet little dumb face, and I spend way too much time just trying to get a decent picture of my fish who suddenly become the Usain Bolts of the fish world whenever I take out the camera. I also take a walk on the salty side but freshwater is my true love. I hope to meet some fellow fish nerds and enthusiasts on this forum and fully plan on becoming far too invested in other people's fish than I should be. And I'm looking forward to every second of it!
  9. Looks like velvet to me. Paracleanse should be your friend if it is! I'd wait to see if anyone else who has dealt with this before chimes in before dosing, though as second opinions are worth more than first! I'd definitely keep an eye on the other fish in the tank, though and see if anyone else starts developing it.
  10. I would think for a bag of that size 30 adults would be a completely reasonable amount. Personally, before I ever ship fish (same general idea) I always fast them at least 2 days and be sure to add just a tad extra Prime (or other ammonia detoxifier). This negates most of the ammonia issues for the time they're expected to be in the bag, though if you wanted to throw in a piece of the ammonia blocking sponge it definitely wouldn't hurt. As far as oxygen goes for that amount of time as long as you have somewhere around 50/50 air to water I wouldn't imagine there'd be any problem! If you wanted to go one step further and bring them in a cooler with an airstone and bag them there there's also that option, though admittedly more work and much heavier. As for a wholesaler and how to get in touch with them I'll be waiting to see who chimes in because I am up to my eyeballs in fish and could definitely use some advice as well, lol!
  11. I'd have to second the Tetra Whisper pump! I just fold up a couple washcloths for it to sit on and even from about four feet from my head when sleeping I can barely hear it.
  12. Thank you! This is so reassuring to hear! We have drywall ceilings. I've been clamoring around with a stud finder this week and I think I'll be able to hit enough studs to make it work. Sort of a follow-up question if you have the time. I'll be doing this in our basement as well; do you heat your tanks individually or your basement altogether? Well now I'm very glad I asked because no, I was not aware of this! Thank you! Off the top of your head do you know any good guides/tutorials that are out there for installing a drain from the loop? I'm sort of handy but by no means well-versed in this sort of thing so I want to make sure I wouldn't do something detrimental in the process. Most definitely! I'm looking forward to not having to have a check valve on every single air drop. Hoping this loop system ends up being everything its cracked up to be!
  13. So after having numerous tanks scattered throughout the house for the last half of forever I'm finally buckling down and creating a real fish room! I'm very excited but quite nervous about some things that I've never dealt with before: namely the single loop air system. The area I'm going to be in is a little strange architecturally speaking and it would be WAY more efficient to attach the PVC to the ceiling than the walls. I've done quite a bit of research but I've never actually seen anyone attach their PVC for air this way. Is there a reason? Would it be a giant mistake? And if not, are there any extra precautions/steps I should take when securing it? Any help from someone who knows more than this noob on the subject would be greatly appreciated!
