Hi everyone, I haven't been here for awhile but I have a question I can't get answered in the Facebook group(s). I just planted this 20 long 4days ago. Got these beautiful plants from aquarium co-op of course! Super happy with the plants! I didn't mean to have so many water column plants! Anyway to my question. I used controsoil which releases ammonia for up to a week to aid with the plant establishment process. I already added the sponge filter I had running in an established tank for over a month. Will the beneficial bacteria in the sponge be alright for up to a week before adding fish or should I be adding fish food? Is the soil feeding the BB? I wasn't sure so I added a sinking mini water. The water is 1.0 ammonia 0 nitrite and about 15 nitrates.

I'm not sure Im doing this right. I find this format a bit confusing. Did you see my question about putting the mature females in with the fry? They need a break and so do I. Just temporarily. Also would you recommend a 20 long? I do want a dividing screen so I can have two different sizes in the same tank.

Another question. The minnows are spawning again. I'm considering putting the females in with the fry to give them a break. There's only 3 females and 7 males. Or should I put them somewhere else in one of the other community tanks. I'd have to acclimate them as that tank is 78°. I could lower it. It has cardinals and pygmy corydoras. The minnows don't eat their own fry

I wish my Vietnamese white cloud minnows would stop breeding! Lol. I have the opposite problem. I agree that your tank is too big and baby minnows are tiny tiny. They got lost trying to find food or got sucked into the filter...but not eaten. At least not by the parents. White cloud minnows do not eat their babies.

The females have a plump belly and are a little less flashy. It's hard to tell until they're mature. The males are more streamline. I've never had golden white clouds but I've had standard and currently I'm raising my own fry from my Vietnamese white cloud minnows. I fed the newborns infusoria and first bites then once they're big enough to swim around fast I give them frozen baby brine shrimp using an eye dropper and a few feeding rings. They know when it's time too eat they swim over to the feeding rings and swarm soon as I drop some in. So 🥰 cute!

Hi everyone, So I have a 10 gallon planted tank which I stocked with Vietnamese white cloud minnows and nothing else except a horned nerite. Probably not a super great idea since these fish don't eat their babies. So once the plants grew in nice (thanks for the great plants Cory!) the minnows started breeding. And the first group hatched Jan 11. Now I have a bin full of something between 60 and 80 fry. Soon I need to move them to a tank till I can re-home them. What size should I get? These fish are 3/4" when mature. I'm thinking a 40 breeder with a dividing screen so I can have the bigger ones separate from the new borns but in the same bare bottom tank with plants and driftwood. What do you recommend? Any advice?

I have some fry in a white bin and they aren't as colored up as they should be. The first ones hatched on January 11th or so. Other than that they're good! Eat like crazy and constantly swimming when the lights are on. Here's a pic but I can't see them as well as if they were in a tank. Any ideas? Could it be because they're in a white bin? I don't think it's an oxygen problem since they're not gasping for air and are active. These are Vietnamese white cloud minnows.❤️

Not a good picture but the video is to big. I should have just bought a new tank so I could see them better but I wanted something sturdy and easy to move so I got a 10 gallon bin and fill it half way

Yes. I have it set for 5 hours in the morning and then off for 4 hours and then on again for 5. So I can spread out the feeding time without killing the few plants I have in with them. Maybe I should just have it on 10 hours straight. I'm not sure what sub dominant means for fish.

It's been 12 weeks since the first ones hatched and they're getting big but still only about half the size as the mature fish. I previously said they were only 6 weeks old but I looked at my videos and they hatched January 11th. I'm bad with time since I'm retired.🤷🏼‍♀️ Another issue I'm having is the fact that the ones I have in the white bin I set up are not colored up as well as the few left in the tank they were born in. They eat the same and are quite active and look good other than the color. Is it possible it's because I have them in a white bin? The water parameters are good.

I have a bin full of Vietnamese white cloud minnow fry. It's been like 6 weeks since the first ones hatched and they're eating like crazy but they still aren't close to being big enough to take to the pet store for store credit. How long does it usually take them to grow almost full size?

I think I've decided on a nerite snail. I'll look at the horned variety too! I was thinking about shrimp but since they need an established tank and this one isn't even a month old yet...and I didn't know they got as big as they do. Maybe my minnows will eat the eggs?

I also love pygmy corydoras and I have about 13 in my 20 gallon that's perfect for them with sand and nothing sharp and lots of hiding spots. I want something different this time. Besides the tank has lava rocks which are kind of abrasive.

Can I have shrimp on fine soil? They're pretty 🥰 cute. I like the idea!

What's a good bottom feeder for a planted tank with soil? It's just a 10 gallon with 6 minnows in it so far, and lots of plants! I keep it at 72° and the pH is 7.0!! Amazing. Would pygmy corydoras be ok on soil? I'm afraid a mystery snail would uproot the plants. Are there any loaches small enough?

I know about the golden ratio and the different styles but being of limited choices, what they had available at the pet store and then trying different angles until you find one that fits so that everything will be easy to glue together. Someday I'll have lots of wood and rocks to choose from and a tank just for growing my own plants from what I have and I'll have more choices. 😉

Hi everyone. It's been 2 weeks and the tank is done cycling, almost. But the plants are doing great. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves 😉 1. Dwarf grass is sending out shoots. 2. The big picture 3. The Apondo? Crispus is really taking off! 4. The Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red is re growing after completely disappearing for week. 5. The tiny plants that came in a cup the guy at the pet store sold me. Hard to plant! I couldn't get all of the roots under the soil but they're growing up anyway. 6. I really like how to this Cryptocoryne is twisting around the driftwood. The driftwood has biofilm. Unsightly but a good sign. So far so good! Here's the dwarf grass

It's "java moss" that I ordered here! I mean to do that next time the wood is sticking out during a water change. Or just tie it on with thread. The java ferns too once they melt back. It's contro soil which was expensive but it's supposed to be great so..

Ok here it is! In the front I have Cryptocoryne L something on the left, a small carpeting plant ☘️ (..it's the only one I didn't order here!)In the center Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red, and on the left a.clump.of dwarf Sagittaria, there's 2 java ferns that I'll glue to.the wood to after the tall leaves melt back. In the back there's an Amazon sword on the left, Aponogeton Crispus in the center back and Bacoba Carolina next to it. I have java moss I'll be tying down next water change. Nice huh! Oh and there's an Anubis nana petite on the wood. I'm getting another one..

That's exactly what I'm going to do! I'm just waiting for my delivery. I added more soil and I put some thin pieces of slate down into the substrate to hold back the soil somewhat.

Hi! What are your thoughts? I added a little height in the back with some crumbled lava rock and some ceramic things. Do you think I should get another small bag of soil? Any advice before I glue it down and plant! My plants have arrived 😃! Almost $100 bucks worth! Thanks Aquariumcoop they look good
